Lamentation For Nigeria's Poor: Poverty, Violence, and the Failure of Economic Imagination

A reflective essay on poverty, corruption, violence, infrastructure, and economic inequality in Nigeria, exploring how concentrated wealth and failed public policy deepen national instability.

Preamble: There are moments in the life of a nation when statistics stop being statistics.

They seep into the roads, the markets, the posture of citizens, the temperament of drivers, the architecture of homes, the language of politics, the psychology of survival.

Eventually, poverty ceases to belong only to the poor.

It becomes the climate in which everyone lives. Nigeria may already be there.

If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. - Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965)

Pastor Emeka Okala:

Call your dumb friend from Otuoke Village called Jonathan Badluck who is planning to contest presidency under the fractured beyond redemption PDP now, that he is wasting his time. He has loads of problems awaiting him from his incompetence and ineptitude of his failed presidency full of economic turmoils and security doom. He is the cause of the current insecurity in Nigeria and that will plague his plot to challenge Tinubu.

He hasn't learned anything yet. He should stay in his village and better not come back to politics. Nigerians haven't forgotten his incompetence and corruption during his 4 to 6 years as president of Nigeria and he will be disgraced back to his Otuoke village with his planned Badluck Movement. He is too gullible. He still has a case against him in court pending judgment tomorrow Monday and people pushing him to contest again are pushing him into a political pit he will not come out of. He needs to sit his ass down in his Otuoke village now before its too late.
