Oga TR,

It is a welcome step.
However, care must be taken to ensure independence and insulation of the state police force from partisan politics and direct tinkering and misuse by politicians, especially governors.

I will propose a non-partisan election of the state police head who will be oversighted by both an elected non-partisan police service commission and state house of assembly with a first line of funding the state or federal budgetand and financial autonomy. .

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday said his administration would work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly to remove political and bureaucratic bottlenecks stalling the operationalisation of state police in Nigeria.

Speaking at the State House, Abuja, during a meeting with members of the Northeast Governors Forum led by Babagana  Zulum, the President said the time had come for a clear, collective path towards community-based policing that reflects the peculiar needs of different regions.

“I have been looking at the security situation more carefully. I have seen the Civilian JTF react to the security challenges, finding so many creative ways to protect neighbourhoods and communities around you, and that provoked my thinking about state police again.“

Unquote

Me like this very much because I have been saying, for more than a decade plus, that we need state police. It’s one of the logical approach we must adopt in order to have a save & secure country.

Another approach we need to adopt is secure our borders, build barriers where practically possible and have a robustly supported security posts at our borders that we cannot secure with barriers because of nature or whatever.

God bless Nigeria

Oga TR,

Do you have a clue what this buffoon Kayusee is talking about.
There is a cause and effect that is well above your pay grade. If you dare to think to understand it, you'll give yourself severe headache.

Governors control the LG chairmen because their purse strings are held by the governors. The second reason is because the eletoral bodies for the chairmanship are controlled by the governors.
Remove those causes and the effect will be eliminated too.

Tinubu has gone as far as giving the local government financial autonomy, albeit not effected yet. The ultimate coup will be to allow INEC to carry out all elections in Nigeria. No state electoral bodies are needed.

If that buffoon called Kayusee can bring his head long enough to read my post, he will see that those two items were tackled, albeit not elaborately. Electoral body was not mentioned but was intended. However, non-partisan election will suffice.

Kayusee is a south-end of a horse!

You wonder why you failed college in London and became a sea pirate hijacking and stealing goods in Docklands, London.

Wait till the Scotland Yard get your ass. You will join Ekweremadu in London Gulag, sooner or later.

Baba Femi,

What you mentioned that we should be careful of have always been the reasons Nigeria did not make the logical bold move. Nigerians are not stupid just too wise:)
Had we taken that logically bold move years ago, Nigeria will have at this point figured out how to fix the imperfections in such a move. Nigerians are not stupid.

On your: “I will propose a non-partisan election of the state police head who will be oversighted by both an elected non-partisan police service commission and state house of assembly with a first line of funding the state or federal budgetand and financial autonomy.”

I say no because that’s just another unnecessary bureaucracy huddle /obstacle. And it creates unnecessary expenses.

My suggestion? Have each state submit a budget for their state police idea to the federal government, they need the federal funds to initially establish, maintain and manage their police force.

The federal government, of course must specifically audit that particular portion of the state budget, quarterly, bi-annually or annually.

Yes, we are capable of doing it and we will do it. Make Nigeria great and bring along other African countries that are with the goal.

God bless Nigeria.
