March 3, 2015

My People:

According to Honorable Federal Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu,  in testimony two days ago before the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education, certain illegal acts of impunity*  visited on the Vice-Chancellors of four New Federal Universities were justified because these universities - and presumably the eight other universities - were allegedly "illegal" creations of the immediate past Administration.  Yet ironically the Honorable Minister  inaugurated the new Governing Counil of these so-called illegal universities on the very  same day as his testimony (see list of the sixty (60) members - five (5) per university -  in Figure 1 below).

Parenthetically, no one of these new Council members was chosen from either Ekiti State or Akwa-Ibom State, while four each were chosen from Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano and Osun States, two each from fourteen  states, and one each from sixteen states.  (See Table 1 below for full statistics of the states of origin of the new Governing Councils.)  A correction of that anomaly is certainly in order.

The Honorable Minister might also wish to know that:

(1)  these Universities were created by Federal Executive Council and/or presidential declarations (or executive orders) at various times (starting from November 2010), the same way many other bodies have been created over the years in the country (or other countries for that matter), including certain new ministries in the present Administration.

(2)  these Universities have been in annual National appropriations budgets since Budget Year 2012, including the one proposed (and being currently fine-tuned) by the Buhari Administration for 2016  (See Table 2 for information on Federal University Otuoke)

(3)  Most importantly, the Laws of these new Universities were actually signed as Establishment Acts on March 26, 2015  by the Clerk of the National Assembly, and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (See Figures 2 and 3 for the relevant pages for Federal University Otuoke).  From information available to this author, these laws are merely awaiting the formality of gazetting once the finances for paying for the gazettes are ironed out.

Consequently, the Honorable Minister must look for other honorable reasons for the actions of his Ministry on this particular matter.

Bolaji Aluko
Immediate Past VC
Federal University Otuoke

PS:  *Specifically, the illegal acts of impunity  are the peremptory reduction in the five-year terms of engagement of five Vice-Chancellors (of Federal Universities of Oye, Gusau, Gashua and Birnin-Kebbi,  and of Open University), and the maintenance (or non-disavowal) of the odious notion of un-warranted "sacking" of thirteen VIce-Chancellors, eight of whose terms had actually expired.

Mobolaji,
Why are you bellyaching now over lopsided appointments of members of governing councils, when in August you chastised those who criticized Buhari's pattern of lopsided appointments thus .

"Now emotions are going haywire over these appointments, but again, I urge people to "calm down."   I believe there is a pattern to PMB's seeming "madness", some of it borne by his laser-focused INTENT to be his own person (his own interpretation of belong to everybody and to nobody),  or to choose familiar people either with merit and impeccable character and/or not enough information by us highly captious Southern persons to throw darts at. (Imagine the calumny against Fayemi, Amaechi and Fashola - or even yours truly - when it was being rumored that they were being considered for high position in the PMB administration.)

When these other appointments start rolling in, the present criticizers will be too happy to accept, rather than throw unwarranted darts at them....you watch…."

Now the other appointments are rolling in not in the manner that you had expected or been deceived to believe. Instead you were sacked as the Minister have stated and left empty handed, you are starting to bellyache. Sai Baba all the way. I dey laugh.

Hen?  Haba!

It is a minor miracle that you commented below on an issue that does not have "Oba of Benin" or "Benin Kingdom" in it, when you quickly put your Godo-godo spear in defence of the Okpolokpolo in hand?  I never knew that there would be that day!

Congratulations!

Folks,

The shameless doctor of chemical engineering, Bolaji Aluko, now according to him, the immediate past VC of FOU is back at wallowing in producing his usual inane statistics as he grovels in the expectation that Buhari's folks will find him supportive of their bubbling leadership. Speaking from both sides of his mouth is his tactics of positioning himself for an appointment in either side of the political divide.

Unfortunately and most importantly, the doctor of chemical engineering wants everyone to believe that his trolling the internet is a better substitute than sticking with his chosen field of study, which is getting to join his colleagues in the research lab where he belongs and help come up with some innovations. Unless the doctor of chemical engineering, Bolaji Aluko will confess or admit that his doctorate was procured on the basis of cramming cum copy and paste and not necessarily on the same high level that most of us expected, well, most us will understand and leave his arse alone and chuck it up as another wasted and failed expectation from a doctorate holder. If not, he owes himself, his people and Nigerians an apologia why he finds it easier to parade the internet than put his supposedly acquired skills to use. As far as I am concerned, there is more to his behavior than meets the eye.

Every day, Nigerians wonder why the country is drifting sideways, in most part, it is because we allow people to study one course and then employ them in a different field altogether like Aluko. Nigeria must stop encouraging the likes of Aluko and insist that they focus in their field of study and as well as demand productivity out of them. If more voices do not demand that Aluko go back to his chosen field, he will continue to perambulate the corridor of power as he constitutes himself as a nuisance.

I suggest someone should bundle this guy Aluko and dump him in a research lab somewhere and lock him up to teach his knucklehead  a lesson.

Good luck folks,

Fredrick.

Mobolaji,
Sycophancy or what Hausa call padanci took the better part of you and blinded you to my write up on  issues not related to Benin.  Now that you have been sacked and failed to secure a new appointment  with Buhari's government, the blinkers are falling off your eyes. I saw it coming when you were busy insulting Jonathan ( you forgot your quarter Ijaw ancestry) which you exploited to secure the Otuoke job. I am sure you will soon dig up your one tenth Fulani ancestry and ply it with the Buhari government.
I have better things to do with my time than wasting time on Nigeria on the net, when i can spend the time for my beloved Benin and Edo ( you can cry over that). When i feel, i write on Nigeria and its enemies like your Buhari- see how my predictions on Buhari are starting to fall in place below.

Prof Aluko,
It is too early in the cycle for you to join the wailing wailers and/or develop 'hatred or intense dislike' for PMB.

In case you have forgotten your recent views on PMB's appointments, below please find an excerpt:

"Now emotions are going haywire over these appointments, but again, I urge people to "calm down."   I believe there is a pattern to PMB's seeming "madness", some of it borne by his laser-focused INTENT to be his own person (his own interpretation of belong to everybody and to nobody),  or to choose familiar people either with merit and impeccable character and/or not enough information by us highly captious Southern persons to throw darts at. I urge you to 'calm down' and suggest you give PMB and his minister of education room to be their own persons. If the minister could not find any familiar person with merit and impeccable character from Ekiti state what do you want him to do? Manufacture one?

I believe there are still many more of those '6, 000 positions' yet to be filled by PMB. At least I have not heard of the appointments to the 'National Motor Parks Commission'. Who knows? Maybe the minister in charge may find an Ekiti indigene ' familiar with merit and impeccable character' to be on its board!
