If a doctor lies, they lose their license.

If a lawyer lies, they face disbarment.

If a politician lies… they get re-elected. 😶

Wales just decided to change that.

The Welsh Parliament has passed the first stage of a bill that would make it a criminal offence for politicians to deliberately lie during election campaigns. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

If found guilty — they lose their seat.

This has never been done anywhere in the world. Wales would be the first country in history to make political lying a crime.

The push started nearly 20 years ago after the Iraq War, when politicians led their countries into conflict based on statements that were later proven false.

Here's where it stands today 👇

73% of the public support the law

Only 9% of people in the UK trust politicians to tell the truth

️ The bill is now in Stage 2 in parliament

One Welsh politician said it best during the debate:

"Lying flourishes in politics because we can get away with it."

Critics say the law could silence debate. Supporters say if politicians are afraid of a law requiring honesty — that tells you everything you need to know. 😶

Should every country have this law? YES or
