Mazi Prince K.C Asagwara,
IF the Igbo cosmology mantra is "Live and Let live" WHY are you trying to IMPORT your "republicanism" into Yorubaland? Abi our Monarchy is NOT part of living? And WHY do you want to create your own traditional eze titles when you had stated you have no kings? This(and more) leads to questioning the TRUTH about your "cosmology mantra".

Imperial:

Please, may you know
this much. I have never felt alienated as a Nigerian.
Neither has there ever been a time my support for
a united Nigeria waned since the Nigeria/Biafra War ended
in 1970; not even amidst undeserved provocations against my
folks, the Igbo from some conscienceless fellow Nigerians.

All that I and most
Ndi-Igbo have always prayed for is that equity prevail in
the treatment of every sections, regions and ethnic
nationalities of Nigeria. That way then, we all can sing
One Nigeria forever. But in the absence of equity of
treatment and the marginalization of Ndi-Igbo, you are
likely to hear some discordant tunes on the Igbo question in
one Nigeria. Isn’t that fair enough?

Personally, I am a
Founder and past President of a Nigerian Association that
has lasted for more than thirty years. And not
just as Founder and former President; I served the
Association in the capacities of Secretary-General, Social
Secretary and PRO. I also, Chaired the Committee in the
authoring of the Association’s Constitution. I remain the
best MC the Association ever had
to host its Annual Xmas gatherings as well as, our
Independence Day  celebrations.

Like many other
Nigerians, the billions of dollar Diaspora Igbo remit home
on annual basis, are they not for the development
of Nigeria? My brother Imperial, please chill and let us
all live by the Igbo cosmology mantra; “Live & Let
Live.” Is that too much to ask?

Cheers.

Ken,

It's the vituperations
of some Igbo guys that made me refer to Yoruba as your hosts
in Lagos . To me Nigeria belongs to all but when you guys
keep wailing and gnashing teeth for no reason, our best bet
is to express ourselves clearer in
a language that everyone understands .

If the use of the word
" host" is what makes you feel alienated, I am
willing to withdraw it my dear brother in exchange for you
giving support to one Nigeria .

“makpus”.

Someone is my
host in my own country that you are proud to call
One United Nigeria and you can’t see how seriously
flawed that position is. Not even the many years you lived
in the USA as a student and resident did any other American
(white, black or Latino) describe you as their guest and
they, your host unless,
the times you perhaps, visited each other’s

This is what
being one’s host entails. When I visit your place of
residence, I am your guest and you, my host. Likewise, when
you visit my place of residence, I play host to
you and you are, my guest. It is very unpatriotic, rude and
insulting to see or regard fellow citizen(s) of the country
you both own and call home, your guest and you his/her

Pa Chief
Ezeana,

You aren't on
the ground here; you live in the United States but Joe
Igbokwe lives here in Lagos, Nigeria . Igbokwe and several
millions of peaceful Igbo people living in non Igbo
parts in Nigeria think alike on this issue and I guess none
of them has complained that he is being

maltreated by our
government because he came from a particular ethnic
group.

As we speak,
about 35- 40% of new housing estates springing up in Lagos
area are owned by Igbo companies meaning that the Igbos in
Lagos don't have problems with their Yoruba hosts.
Igbos in Nigeria say they don't have problems with
other Nigerians but you guys living in America and Europe
keep crying wolf where there's none . Are you overseas
based guys working for the collective interest of the Igbo
race or just like to create another
crisis ?

Am sure your
entire position or argument would be different if you have a
little stake in the system .

Folks:

This is all
about propaganda. Let us back-track a little bit to 1970,
when General Effiong surrendered and the Biafra war
(officially) ended. Reconciliation and rehabilitation
started immediately. The atmosphere
was like that of families that were (forcefully) separated
and happily reuniting. There were tears of joy and
happiness. Boyfriends and girlfriends alike were busy
searching for their loved-ones, etc, I
recall.

Ironically, I
left Nigeria for the USA, August of 1974. There were about
12 Nigerians who arrived at the same school as freshmen. We
met about four other Nigerians at the school. Of all the
bunch, only four of us
were non-Igbos and from Bendel State. You know the
surprise? We all lived like a big family!!!! In fact we
lived a communal life. I must admit that those were my
happiest days in the USA! Tribal lines never existed,
believe it or not. Furthermore, most of
us became confidants and retained those bonds
to-date.

An
interesting observation that struck most of us freshmen was
that the Igbos who were in the USA during the war were
(actually) still at war mentally, even though the war had
ended four years earlier and reconciliation
was in full gears back home. I recall how we made mockery
of the (older) Igbos who were here during the war. We would
tell them that they were way behind time in terms of
developments back home.

Summarily,
Igbos in the diaspora are the ones responsible for all these
propaganda and instigative incitements. They know how to
ignite a tribal war as they hide in their comfort-zones in
the USA and Europe, running
their big mouths, while the poor Igbo young-men are getting
slaughtered back home. What do you think? Cheers and peace.

Leye Ige:

You asked me, "WHY are you trying to IMPORT your "republicanism" into Yorubaland? Abi our Monarchy is NOT part of living?

My response - You directed your question to the wrong person. I have never argued that Igbo Republicanism should be exported into Yoruba land. Your Yoruba Monarchy is part of living in Yoruba cosmology and I have no problem with that. I have always stated that the firewood in a peoples environment cooks their food for them. To each, accordingly.

Let the Igbo live with their Republicanism, wherever they are and let the Yorubas abide by their Monarchism, wherever they are. That is the essence of Igbo cosmology mantra of "Live & Let Live".

Leye Ige, like a good many others of non-Igbo origin, you have misunderstood and misinterpreted the concept of "Igbo have no Kings". If I recall correctly, my dear Nwanna Dr. Obi Nwakanma on many occasions explained it to you, readers. Let me here briefly try as he had. The concept of Igbo have no Kings simply implies that every Igbo is King in his household. And when it comes to community affairs, OHA as in the People voices hold sway over any Eze/King. In Igbo land areas where they have Ezes/Kings, such people function at the behest of OHA, the People. The Republican nature of Igbo society fashioned it that way. Just like the Monarchical nature of the Yoruba cosmology gives the Kabieysi an Oracular status to the point that every Yoruba must bow before him.

Leye, our country's multicultural mosaic should be a source of strength and unity rather than disunity; them and us.

Cheers.

Imperial:

Please, may you know  this much. I have never felt alienated as a Nigerian. Neither has there ever been a time my support for a united Nigeria waned since the Nigeria/Biafra War ended  in 1970; not even amidst undeserved provocations against my  folks, the Igbo from some conscienceless fellow Nigerians.

All that I and most Ndi-Igbo have always prayed for is that equity prevail in  the treatment of every sections, regions and ethnic nationalities of Nigeria. That way then, we all can sing  One Nigeria forever. But in the absence of equity of  treatment and the marginalization of Ndi-Igbo, you are  likely to hear some discordant tunes on the Igbo question in  one Nigeria. Isn’t that fair enough?

Personally, I am a Founder and past President of a Nigerian Association that  has lasted for more than thirty years. And not just as Founder and former President; I served the  Association in the capacities of Secretary-General, Social  Secretary and PRO. I also, Chaired the Committee in the  authoring of the Association’s Constitution. I remain the  best MC the Association ever had to host its Annual Xmas gatherings as well as, our  Independence Day  celebrations.

Like many other Nigerians, the billions of dollar Diaspora Igbo remit home  on annual basis, are they not for the development of Nigeria? My brother Imperial, please chill and let us  all live by the Igbo cosmology mantra; “Live & Let  Live.” Is that too much to ask?

Cheers.

Ken,

It's the vituperations of some Igbo guys that made me refer to Yoruba as your hosts  in Lagos . To me Nigeria belongs to all but when you guys  keep wailing and gnashing teeth for no reason, our best bet  is to express ourselves clearer in
a language that everyone understands .

If the use of the word " host" is what makes you feel alienated, I am  willing to withdraw it my dear brother in exchange for you  giving support to one Nigeria .

Pa Chief Ezeana,

You aren't on the ground here; you live in the United States but Joe  Igbokwe lives here in Lagos, Nigeria . Igbokwe and several  millions of peaceful Igbo people living in non Igbo
parts in Nigeria think alike on this issue and I guess none  of them has complained that he is being  maltreated by our government because he came from a particular ethnic group.

As we speak, about 35- 40% of new housing estates springing up in Lagos  area are owned by Igbo companies meaning that the Igbos in  Lagos don't have problems with their Yoruba hosts.
Igbos in Nigeria say they don't have problems with  other Nigerians but you guys living in America and Europe  keep crying wolf where there's none . Are you overseas  based guys working for the collective interest of the Igbo  race or just like to create another crisis

Am sure your entire position or argument would be different if you have a  little stake in the system .

Mazi KC Prince Asagwara: " I have never argued that Igbo Republicanism should be exported into Yoruba land.

RESPONSE: This is NOT answering the question. Here's why: of course, Igbo will live with their republicanism and the Yoruba with their monarchy. BUT WE ARE LIVING TOGETHER WITHIN THE SAME GEO-POLITICAL SPACE--- which makes all the difference. So, how can both live together in the same space WITHOUT some form of "line" that mus not be crossed? In other words, each HOST must be able to determine such a LINE. the Yoruba will not interfere in Igbo republicanism in Igboland, ditto the Igbo in Yorubaland, at the same time one cannot transport one's social views into another's.

Mazi KC Prince Asagwara: "Leye Ige, like a good many others of non-Igbo origin, you have misunderstood and misinterpreted the concept of "Igbo have no Kings". Just like the Monarchical nature of the Yoruba cosmology gives the Kabieysi an Oracular status to the point that every Yoruba must bow before him."
RESPONSE: Leaving your misunderstanding of Yoruba Monarchy aside, as long as you live OUTSIDE Igboland, your Oha is irrelevant; just as the Yoruba will not play by their own rules in Igboland. BUT YOU HAVE TO RECOGNIZE THIS LIMITATION, otherwise "citizenship" is meaningless.

Mazi KC Prince Asagwara: "Leye, our country's multicultural mosaic should be a source of strength and unity rather than disunity; them and us."
RESPONSE: Yep, but what is the FOUNDATION for that "source of strength"? Disrespect breeds disunity and negates multiculturalism.

Leye Ige:

You really want to shove this Yoruba monarchy and way of life down our throats. When it comes to cosmopolitan areas/places in Nigeria,  for example Lagos, your Yoruba monarchy holds no ground in majority of that state.  The only way the monarchy should matter is who becomes the Oba of Lagos. This is where non Lagos royal family should not dabble into. I have often thought the mistake the founding fathers did when Lagos was made the federal capital is they should have out rightly bought the place. However, because federal funds was used to develop Lagos and because it was a federal capital, it truly should belonged to all Nigerians,. Same with Abuja. However,  you guys simply want to down play Lagos Federal status to suit your tribal fancy even though most of you guys are not from Lagos.   Please note I have not discussed Yoruba Obas in small Yoruba towns or villages.

With the example of Lagos above,  there's nothing like living within Yoruba cosmology.  You live within Nigeria cosmology because different Nigerians that make up the area bring their various ways of life, culture, what-have you to bear in that place. If for example Igbo,  Edo,  Yoruba,  Efik, etc live in an area, there may be infusion of the culture of all these nationalities in that area. I call it melting point.

Now, I expect you to come swinging.

Vin,
(1) The PORTION of Lagos that constituted "federal capital" was the "colony", around the Island. Nothing more, nothing less. The Western Region DEVELOPED those places up to Iddo, Apapa, etc. So, sir, your claim about Lagos is WRONG.
(2) As to cosmopolitan nature, Yorubaland is FULL of cosmopolitan cities--that's because of our welcoming nature which we DO NOT brag about.
(3) I DO NOT have to shove anything down your throat. You are NOT Yoruba, so to you, it may be nothing more than an academic exercise, but to the Yoruba, it is not; and for Lagos, the entire territory is Yoruba, federal capital or not; bought out or not, that is why all the settlements have their Obas. Now, even if the place was bought out, nothing stops a buy-back, if necessary. And any sort of instrument can be utilized in such buy-back. Better still, if Biafra becomes independent, obviously, its portion of the purchase will become void, by fiat.

"I have often thought the mistake the founding fathers did when Lagos was made the federal capital is they should have out rightly bought the place. However, because federal funds was used to develop Lagos and because it was a federal capital, it truly should belonged to all Nigerians"--Vin Otuonye

Afis BirdsEyeView:

Again, this Vin Ohu Otuonye, is an ignoramus.
These igbo fools talk about Lagos as if Lagos capital is the whole of Lagos state.

Low cost housing in Suru-lere were built to compensate the omo Eko-s when the bridges destroyed their traditional family homes on the Islands.  And some of those buildings were funded by the Lagos property dev Corp of those days, not the federal govt. Except for 25 storey building, Tafawa Balewa sq, and National stadium, what are the development projects in Lagos? Yaba and idiaraba were not developed except Yaba tech and Unilag in embryonic stages. The two rail lines from Iddo to Kano, you  call that development?
Was Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu part of Lagos capital?
Ikeja Industrial project was by AG government and Ikeja was part of the West.
All of Alimosho and Egbe, Isolo, Ojo, Okokomaiko, Irede, even Part of Costain were all forests......until  National theatre.
Ijeshatedo was later occupied by the Ijeshas who bought lands from Awori whose Oba is Onitire of Itire. Was Lekki developed? Was Maroko developed?
Look ojare, Oluwa loni Ile, ati awon Awori ti o motan re.

I PREDICT THAT IN THE NEAR FUTURE, TO CHASE IGBOS OUT OF SURULERE, IN ORDER TO RECLAIM THE ELECTED SEATS, WE MAY RECONSIDER REBUILDING SURULERE BECAUSE ACCORDING TO AFIS RECLAMATION PLANS, THE RABIATU CRESCENT BUILDINGS AND HOGAN BASSEY LITTLE HOUSES AND SUENU ROAD AND ALHAJI MASHA ROAD SLUMS ARE UNFIT FOR HUMANS.

If my memory serves me right, We did it in Ajegunle, we can do it again.
That's the beauty of DEMOCRACY.
The hosts control the local economy thru their elected officials.

Some of you people in this forum write and reason like uneducated compound fools. With thoughts like the one below no wonder the best thing for Nigeria will be total disintegration. In fact there's no need bandaging a geographical entity with minds like the one below in this 21st century. May God help that nation.
