I just don’t see the wisdom in terminating the leadership of a pioneer university president on the grounds that time’s up, according to contract.
A university is not exactly the same as a mango juice factory, where one shift ends and another shift supervisor takes over and keeps the juice flowing.
It will be one thing if the Univ. president was plucked from industry to keep an eye on things until an educator is found. Here you have a complete set educator who started the whole shebang from scratch, brick by brick, and opened the door on the first day. Really! Straight shot nose to the grind stone labor.
5 years is enough for such a person to fully leave their foot print? I doubt it. Why not roll out another continuation/extension 5 years, to get the incumbent to touch up stuff, groom a replacement, and ride it out with a seamless transition? This stuff is like going to a carpenter to get a Piccadilly suit. Strange,
So, the new guy comes in and by the time he knows where the rest rooms are, 3 years have passed, and as soon as he understands what he is supposed to do, time’s up and the contract wheels him out in a wheel barrow.
What a country? This method of doing things insults intelligence in my opinion, and is way too ass backwards if the intention is to do things the right way.
All things end, that’s just the way it is. But did you give it your best shot? Incumbents should look back and judge for themselves if they did a good job, which I think is the case here.
If the conscience is satisfied that the best was done—then, shoulders high, head straight, neck angled a little bit, and step. One thing leads to another.

Dear Prof. Aluko;Let me use this opportunity, on behalf of AfriHUB Group and the Nigerian Diaspora Alumni Network (NiDAN) to congratulate you at the successful completion of your 5-year term as the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State. It only seems like yesterday when in February 2011, you answered the call to serve our dear nation in the VCship capacity, and I can personally attest, having been to your beautiful campus in remote Otuoke and interacted with your students, that you are leaving behind a remarkable chasm of excellence, an indelible footprint of academic, infrastructural, human and community impact for which generations yet unborn shall remember you. We look forward to seeing you in even higher calling of service to our nation, in a capacity limited only by your penchant style for avoiding "low hanging fruits" and choosing more challenging posts, albeit with little or no applause. A vacation in the immediate term?... Very well deserved!!!Again, Congrats as we wish you the best in your future endeavors.....Very Warm Wishes,Manny Aniebonam_______________________________________________________________________________Prof. Manny C. Folks,
To be honest, I have never cared a hoot about the man Bolaji Aluko before, during and now after his VC tenure because of his antecedents. Why would anyone care except his lackeys? This is a man that literally plagued and badgered the former president Goodluck Jonathan for almost everything the man did until he was appointed the VC of Otuoke University, suddenly the criticism disappeared. It is not a believe, it is a fact that his appointment was to shut him up and it worked but the man is a certified ingrate. His dislike of Jonathan did not abate, he continued to murmur under his breath and spit like a viper intermittently at the administration and once Buhari showed up he change like a chameleon that he is. If Bolaji the hypocrite Aluko believed one word of all he said about Jonathan before he was appointed, why did he accept such appointment from someone that he considered to be that deficient. He accepted for lack of principles. Aluko was all about bulldozing his way into Nigeria where you take, I take mentality is the norm, whether he was able to take or the extent of his taking, we will never know. The man suffers from many afflictions like internet addiction, inability to stay away from the internet and concentrate on his job as a VC as other VCs, second from logorrhea, inability to shut up and mind his VC responsibilities, third from sectionalism, not missing any opportunity to attack the Igbo. The fact of the matter has been that Aluko is very much resentful of Jonathan's administration notwithstanding all his pretences, he never thought that Jonathan was worthy of being the president of the country not to speak of a man from Otuoke, hmm, Otuoke where? He did not think that Jonathan had neither the brains nor the pedigree to occupy Aso Rock. He never cared for Jonathan nor did he respect the man. He was more supportive of Buhari than for his benefactor.
It is interesting that Aluko will extend any kind of gratitude to Jonathan now that it hardly mattered. The question is where the gratitude went when it really mattered, when the going was tough for Jonathan, when all manners of attacks were leveled against Jonathan not once did the now grateful and great one Aluko come to the president's defense. If anything, Aluko consistently egged on his attackers and when he found it fit added fuel to the fire by given Jonathan attackers pointers in his articles. I will ask people to checkout most of his writings before the election, they were all pro-Buhari, which again meant that he was contemptuous and never cared about Jonathan's administration but was more interested in currying favor with the next administration. As a typical Yoruba, you can sense in his writings the double entendre when he was climbing the political fence in case Buhari did not work out. As far as I am concerned the man is treacherous and he can keep his gratitude to himself. Jonathan does not need his counterfeit niceties at this time. Bolaji doesn't care a damn what happens to the man he accepted his appointment from, he has spent all his time since Buhari's election trying to get in the man's good books. Aluko is a typical Yoruba man that does not entertain any qualms about betrayal, all he cares about is what it will take to get him the next appointment given that his tactics to hammer Jonathan into appointing him worked.
Goodby Aluko, move on, hopefully you have all the time in world to devote to your Igbo bashing streak and more.
One Tartuffe out of the way.
Good luck folks,
Fredrick.
Dear Mobolaji,Let me add my contribution to the well deserved cudos that have been coming your way my heartfelt congratulations on your exceptional stewardship as Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State. It was an honor to make a modest contribution to the early guidance for the University and visit your campus in the early days of its impressive physical development. My visits to Nigeria since than have unfortunately not taken me to Bayelsa State. Although my personal engagement has been limited, I have followed faithfully from afar your artful management of the academic, financial, cultural, and political challenges that emerged to circumscribe -- but never impede - the execution of your well defined vision for the institution. The addition of a high-quality seat of education for the people of Bayelsa State, Niger Delta, and Nigeria is no small accomplishment, as the country strives to harness its abundant human capacity to the ongoing task of economic and social development. Your accomplishment will endure and expand. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors, which I have no doubt will be equally impressive and visionary, and would look forward to seeing you again when you are in Washington, D.C. E kuse 'o!With very best wishes,Deirdre

Subject: [africanworldforum] Re: MY CUDOS on an excellent job and Best Wishes for 2016 -- On the Matter of the Expiration of my Tenure as VC of Federal University Otuoke - Part One |
My People:I exhibit below three letters, and make some pertinent observations:1. Figure 1: a letter from the Federal Ministry of Education on my appointment as Vice-Chancellor for a single term, effective February 16, 2016 (letter dated February 17). My last official day is therefore Monday, February 15, 2016, which I have known from Day One, which I have never sought to change. In fact, at this time, I have cleared out my desk in readiness for a new Vice-Chancellor.2. Parenthetically, nine of us VCs were appointed on the same day and handed this letter on February 17 - Dutse, Dutsin-Ma, Kashere, Lafia, Lokoja, Ndufu-Alike, Oye, Otuoke and Wukari. The pioneer vC of Oye was appointed a Minister of the Federal Government two years later and was replaced by a new one in February 2013, at the very same time that three other Vice-Chancellors were announced - Gashua, Gusau and Kebbi - all for five-year single terms as spelt out in letters to them.3. Figure 2: a letter dated February 4, 2016 from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to eight Pro-Chancellors (of Dutse, Dutsin-Ma, Kashere, Lafia, Lokoja, Ndufu-Alike, Otuoke and Wukari, appropriately omitting Oye) re-confirming the date of expiration of tenure of their Vice-Chancellors, and appropriately Instructing each of them about the proper handing-over to an Acting Vice-Chancellor by the current VC in order to avoid any vacuum in power within the universities.4. Figure 3: a letter that made the previous referenced letter necessary, that is a letter (dated 19 November, 2015) to the same eight Pro-Chancellors asking for the suspension of the due-process appointment of new Vice-Chancellors in their Universities, a process that began with newspaper advertisements..5. New substantive Vice-Chancellors have since been announced by the Federal Government (and Proprietor) for all the twelve universities, but their instruments of office are yet to be delivered to them. I wish all of them well whenever their terms begin, and in particular the new VC appointed for Federal University Otuoke, whose interest will be my concern for the rest of my natural life. Those above are the facts, and nothing but the facts, without embellishment at this time.To close, it has been a unique joy and a rare privilege to serve the country these five years as pioneer VC of the new Federal University Otuoke in Bayelsa State. I write with sincere gratitude to the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for appointing me along with others - coincidentally for me to serve in his very home-town! :-) Gratitude also goes to the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for the support of the university since it came on board in May 2015. President Buhari deserves all support, and has the unique opportunity to do things right and to do the right things for our country. One hopes and expects that as Visitor to all of our Federal Universities, those include respect and honor that Vice-Chancellors - as the apex head of educational institutions all over the world.- deserve. The race has been run, and some rest is deserved! :-).Best wishes all.Bolaji AlukoVice-Chancellor, Federal University OtuokeFebruary 14, 2016Figure 1: Letter from the Federal Ministry of Education on My Appointment as Vice-Chancellor, effective February 16, 2016 (Letter Dated February 17)

Manny C. "Were awon arabi o legbe."....HC.
Folks,
Some of you might wonder why the delay in my response, just to allow enough time to rope in as many bootlickers and flatterers as possible. Men of smallness! As would be expected, it is interesting how quickly vacuity became the standard for complementing Aluko. Like untrained rats, the brown nosers could not wait to rush out of their myopic gates to applaud mediocrity. A man with a doctorate in chemical engineering with no pedigree of innovation of worth is demoted to manage a college of 200 pupils and these mindless people are falling over themselves to congratulate him because his tenure was not extended. What could be more pathetic than that? The man should be an embarrassment to the Yoruba people for underperforming but the mindless cannot realize it. Notice how these nitwits spoke in generalities and never mentioned anything concrete that Aluko achieved in the 5 years that he spent at Otuoke, except for the fact that he was given a boat load of money to set up a university of about 200 students more like a secondary school (the number that would normally register for a single class in any traditional varsity). Pay attention, his other achievement is the fact that he was not caught with any corpus delicti (concrete evidence of a crime). I guess on that matter, it will be determined after the new VC takes a second look at his administration, which in itself is a long shot given the caliber of these political hacks that are appointed. Some have hinted of the campus and how nice the engineering departments are, except that no one spoke about any project/s any of these departments were able to complete or have in progress. By these low standards that all you need do is erect buildings and not get caught stealing; a third class mind could do the job of a VC. Up till today Aluko has refused to disclose how much it cost the federal govt to stand up that mini Otuoke campus so that Nigerians can adjudge his financial management skills or lack thereof. As a new outfit, it is difficult to judge Otuoke against any bench mark than to say that Aluko built the four walls and housed the pupils. The educational experience of these students and the standards they were held to are yet to be ascertained. Can these yahoos tell us what specifically Aluko has achieved than spent our money, anybody can spend money, the quantifiable result is what matters. These knuckle heads have made out Aluko to be larger than life and when it mattered they were satisfied to accept that his achievement is that he survived the vagaries of Nigeria. If that is all there is to achievement, why do we need someone from abroad when we have plenty of such leaving in Nigeria.
When I first learned that Aluko holds a doctorate in chemical engineering and I saw how much time he was devoting on the internet forum exchanging words with folks that he should be mentoring and sadly enjoying the accolades from the same sophomoric bunch, I knew right away that the man is a mediocre. I could not imagine the likes of Bert Nnaji or Soludo serious people for that matter condescending to the level of Aluko. Even after he was appointed the VC of Otuoke, he could not shake his addiction to the internet because he does not belong to the big league where serious people make things happen.
My contention is that Aluko should be considered a failure if what he has done up till now is the best he could for his people and Nigeria given the skills that his people claim that he has in the field of chemical engineering. I have great respect for those that have attained the apogee of their educational pursuit but I do not appreciate those that do not know what to do with their acquired knowledge or are under performing like Aluko. His people should be the ones challenging him to do more with his talent in the area of his expertise than encouraging him to go the same way other Yoruba intellectuals have gone, chasing ministerial positions that do not bring about innovation. His praise worshippers should be disappointed because you don’t pursue a doctorate in his field without the intention of joining the league of innovators because that is the level of attainment where ideas are translated into realty. From all indications Aluko is doing everything to jettison his prime profession of arduous research and perseverance to join the high flying circus. What a waste of talent?
People, the underlying issue for me is that Nigeria needs innovators like they need a hole in the head. The unspoken truth is that there are not that many Yoruba people participating in the fundamental activities of innovation, research and development to assist in enhancing the country’s technological advancement that will help earn for the country needed hard currency. Almost all the Yoruba intellectuals, the crème de la crème of Yoruba society are scattered all over the place looking to manage what others have built or looking to be appointed into one office or the other leaving a gaping hole in the area of creating, discovering, innovating, design and construction. The south west have been looking for a hero for decades since after Awo left, in light of that, they arrogated to Aluko virtues of the sage that if he managed it well will be a game changer for the Yoruba society. My frustration which should be a concern to my Yoruba friends is that one of them in the person of Bolaji Aluko unless otherwise stated attained the zenith of his profession as an expert in chemical engineering where research, discovery and innovate are the preoccupation. However, instead of Aluko leading teams of researchers and innovators to come up with new discoveries for the oil industry that can help his people and Nigeria get to the next level, an achievement whose effect will be resoundingly larger and more efficacious than any VC or ministerial position that he could ever hold, Unfortunately, the rarefied one Aluko has devoted his time to being the forum renowned archivist and Liberian on most arcane subjects. Me think that this is one of the greatest displays of intellectual waste the world is witnessing among others in the Yoruba community, where well educated individuals, no question asked, simply fretter their talents away and the Yorubas instead of challenging them to stay true to their profession ignorantly support them to via of course and they then wonder why Yorubas are not represented among the grass root innovators. As far as I am concerned, I believe that Aluko has the academic credentials to excel in his field, what seems to be lacking though are the right temperament, patience, perseverance and the unquenchable burning desire to over achieve, which calls into question whether he actually has the mind of an innovator or whether he has the mind of a perpetual student that needs to be guided at all times in order to become an innovator. The later seems to be manifest.
Aluko is a case study; where as intelligent as he is in his field, his ultimate disposition is in politics and sundry matters. This pattern seems to pervade the south west where many Yorubas with subject matter expertise abandoned them for more less challenging fields. The fact that Aluko and his likes in Yoruba land are not fully engaged in research and development, design and production in their areas of expertise is deplorable.
Aluko and his ilk are not the only professors around in case they do not realize it, we know that Bert Nnaji is a professor of robotics but that did not stop from building electric power stations, we know that Njoku Obi is a Professor of virology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and that did not stop him from developing the Cholera vaccine, engineer Izuogu is also a professor and he engineered the V600 vehicle and Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, not a professor but Nigerians are driving his vehicles. This is the league that I believe that Aluko belongs in, anything shut is underperformance. It is important to note that the loitering around by Aluko and his ilk looking for appointments is not sustainable in the long run if the area of innovation, design and production are seriously lacking in the country. I am being hard on Aluko because he is not an ordinary professor, he is considered among the top brains in the south west and as such he must be subjected to a higher expectation and standard. My concern is, if south west intelligentsia like Aluko is all out seeking ministerial positions, who then is going to do the heavy lifting in the area of inventing, engineering and production so that they will have something to minister over? This idea of Yorubas who are educated enough to be able to build things always looking to manage is tragic to say the least. This is what is wrong with Aluko, I have in many occasions called him out to say, if you are as good as they purport, how come the only thing you are known for is spending inordinate amount of time goggling archive information just like an unserious individual? I have challenged him even when he was in the US before his appointment to once in a while as a man with a doctorate in chemical engineering interest us with some of the projects he is working on or supervising, never once did he share such thoughts. The last time I checked Aluko was not trained as a manager, so why does a doctorate in chemical engineering that suppose to be working on research and development that will help Nigeria earn hard currency so eager to manage other people’s money or be a minister? I think his sycophants should answer that question for him, probably in the process they will realize what a waste this is and the low bar they have set for the sage.
The usual crowd will wave these concerns away like their fathers did with the cascading catastrophic consequences that have brought the country to its knees as a failed state. It does not matter any way anyone wants to cut it, the absence of Yorubas in the innovation area in Nigeria is a disaster for them and the whole country. They must be discouraged from looking for what to manage instead they must be made to participate actively in innovation unless their only option will be to tear down whatever is being built out of insecurity. It is against this background that I am not satisfied with Bolaji Aluko’s contribution to the Yoruba nation and Nigeria in general. Aluko with his level of education must be caused to rise to his full potential in his field of expertise to help save the country from it seemingly perpetual impasse and most importantly help the country generate hard currency that being a minister will not achieve.
That is my take, take it or leave it.
Good luck folks,
Fredrick.

Folks,
I want to say something in this post that if you don't read very carefully I assure you that your feelings will be hurt and I truly don't care that your feelings were hurt because I come at this post from what is best for OUR country. WARNING: Delete now, and don't read beyond this point if you are weak minded. You have been warned!
Here is the point: I am truly an independent and objective observer and of course there are some people I truly like for "whatever" reason and there are some people I would NEVER like. Also, there are some people I RESPECT and do not like and some that I don't like and have no respect for. What am trying to say is that Fredrick's post below, I believe, offered CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS of VC Aluko's PUBLIC SERVICE and EXPECTATIONS. This is real!
I say it is constructive criticism because I would or I have leveled similar criticism of "others", and just because Fredrick made it to a person I like, VC Aluko, in no way diminish reality nor should I allow it to impair my independent judgment.
Here is an example of Fredrick's critic:

My brother Iguade.
Stop dreaming.
North American Trained African Porfessors can never profsor solutions to Africa. They are trianed only to function in America and if Africa gives them opportunities, they want red carpets, fat salaries and staff to attend to them. Can you name one that has moved th nationf orwards, i dn not know.
All they do is bluff with degrees in this forum and when anyone form a thrid world country present a proposal, they gangup against him to make a mockery of him, they even have attack dogs who are nothing but ready to defend teh copy cram and past profesors.
Mobolaji los a very great opportunity to tranform that area being a Professor of Chemical Emgineering.
I do hope he heeds FRedrick if he knows that he has the capacity for inovation.
