A prosecution witness, PW17, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and Deputy Superintendent of the EFCC, DCE Ahmed Audu Abubakar, on Monday, February 9, 2026, narrated before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, how hundreds of millions of naira allegedly diverted from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account were used to acquire high-end properties in choice areas of the Federal Capital Territory.

The EFCC is prosecuting Ali Bello, the Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and a nephew of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, on a 16-count amended charge, alongside Dauda Sulaiman and one Abdulsalami Hudu, the former cashier of the Kogi State Government House Administration Account (now at large).

The defendants are standing trial over allegations of misappropriation and money laundering to the tune of ₦10,270,556,800, funds allegedly withdrawn from the Kogi State treasury and delivered to a Bureau de Change operator, Rabiu Tafada, in Abuja, to keep or convert to foreign currencies for personal use.

At the resumed hearing on Monday, Abubakar told the court that the first defendant, Ali Bello, used ₦900 million to acquire a property located at No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama, Abuja, Spring Hall School.

“My Lord, the property belongs to a Honourable from Bauchi State and was put up for sale for that amount. The first defendant procured the services of a lawyer, Barrister Ramalan, to broker the transaction. Barrister Ramalan carried out the instruction as directed by the first defendant, and the property was eventually purchased.

The payment was made in cash at the office of the Bureau de Change in Zone 4, Abuja, after the naira equivalent was converted to dollars. That was the finding of our investigation regarding the transaction,” he said.

The witness further stated that the funds used for the purchase were withdrawn at different times from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account.

When shown Exhibit H by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the witness confirmed that it was a Deed of Assignment between Pauchi Ventures Nigeria Limited and Y3 Nigeria Limited.

Asked to identify Y3 Nigeria Limited, the witness explained:
“My Lord, Y3 is the company provided by the first defendant to his lawyer for the preparation of the Deed of Assignment.”

Moving to count four of the charge, Oyedepo, SAN, stated that the defendant allegedly used ₦920 million to acquire a property located at No. 2 Justice Chukwudi (or Oguta) Street, Asokoro, Abuja, funds he reasonably ought to have known were proceeds of unlawful activity.
Responding, the witness confirmed that the EFCC identified the property during investigations.
“My lord, the transaction was brokered by the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Bello, himself. He approached a contractor friend who had recently acquired the property through Wastle Motors, owned by Alhaji Sa’id Dantsoho”
“They agreed on a price, and the owner accessed a facility from Access Bank. It was agreed that the property would be sold at the same amount it was acquired. Payment was to be made ‘in kind’ because His Excellency had just assumed office and promised to patronize the contractor during his administration.”

An account was provided into which loan repayments would be made. During the period, there were numerous cash deposits from Lokoja and transfers from the Bureau de Change operated by Rabiu Tafada, including through his company, Busynet. All BDC transfers were carried out on the instruction of the first defendant, Ali Bello. That is how the property was paid for, My Lord”, he said.
The witness stated that the total facility collected as of March 21, 2018, stood at ₦808,698,263.29.

Abubakar further told the court that on April 8, 2020, multiple cash deposits were made at the Lokoja Branch of Access Bank towards servicing the loan. He listed the deposits as follows:
• Victor Ashimo – ₦3,650,000
• Surajo Samson – ₦7,700,000
• Sikiru Lariyat – ₦6,650,000
• Yusuf Mustapha – ₦6,800,000
• Nasiru Mustapha – ₦6,500,000
• Adamu Mamman – ₦6,700,000
• Shehu Afeez – ₦9,500,000
• Musa Umar – ₦9,600,000
• Mohammed Baba – ₦8,900,000
• Victor Obafemi – ₦8,400,000
• Olushola Hakeem – ₦9,200,000
• Yahaya Ahmed – ₦7,600,000
• Tony Olaoluwa – ₦6,800,000
• Habib Sulaiman – ₦8,200,000
• Yakubu Hamid – ₦7,500,000
• Sunday Sylvester – ₦6,900,000
• Aminu Sani – ₦8,700,000
• Job Awe – ₦9,500,000
• Emmanuel Christopher – ₦6,600,000
• Abdulsalami Aliyu – ₦8,300,000
• Yunusa I. Isiyak – ₦7,000,000
• Sulaiman Alhassan – ₦7,300,000
• Yakubu Idris – ₦8,900,000
• Jami’u Sule – ₦8,100,000
• Ismaila Nasiru – ₦7,900,000
• Yusuf Usman – ₦8,500,000
• Obafemi Ajayi – ₦8,800,000
• Abdullahi Sani – ₦7,800,000

When asked if all the payments were made in cash, the witness replied:
“Yes, My lord.”
He further stated that the source of the funds used to service the loan was the Kogi State Government House Administration Account.

On count five, the witness testified that ₦170 million was used to acquire a property located on Marsin Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, directly behind the residence of former Governor Yahaya Bello at No. 9 Benghazi Street.
“Our investigation revealed that the funds were withdrawn from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account. The transaction was brokered by the first defendant in conjunction with his late BDC associate, Murtala Maigari”, he said.

The property owner, a retired Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, Ishaya Adamu Jagaba, supplied an account into which ₦100 million was paid, while ₦70 million was converted to United States Dollars.”

On count six, Abubakar stated that the defendants aided the use of ₦100 million to acquire a property at No. 1773 Guzape Street, Abuja, with funds traced to the Kogi State Government House Administration Account through a Bureau de Change.

On count seven, he confirmed the acquisition of a property at No. 176, Plot 4882, Lome Street, Wuse, Abuja, also funded from the same government account.

On count eight, the witness told the court that ₦66 million was paid for a property at Plot 739 Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, using cash withdrawn from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account, stressing that the payment was not made on behalf of the Kogi State Government.

The witness had earlier testified on how hundreds of millions of naira were moved from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account and security votes to purchase properties and renovate the family house of former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Justice Omotosho thereafter adjourned the matter to February 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20, 2026, for continuation of trial.

Your dear friend El-Rufai just set up himself for trouble with the SSS. He claimed he tapped Nuhu Ribadu's phone and listened on his calls about orchestrating his arrest, which is illegal and criminal under Nigeria's laws and Constitution. It's illegal to tap someone's phone and listen to their calls aka eavesdropping under Nigeria’s Criminal Code.

According to him:

“He (Ribadu) made the call because we listened to their calls. The government thinks that they are the only ones that listen to calls. But we also have our ways.”

Hundreds storm EFCC headquarters, demand El-Rufai’s prosecution

Punch

Hundreds of demonstrators stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja on Monday, demanding a thorough probe into the alleged N432 billion corruption case involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The protesters, under the aegis of the Mega National Movement for Good Governance, converged on the anti-graft agency’s headquarters, chanting solidarity songs and wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Answer The Charges El-Rufai” and “El-Rufai Not Above The Law.”

In a dramatic turn, the group made spirited attempts to march into the commission’s premises but were stopped by stern-looking security operatives stationed at the entrance.

Addressing journalists at the scene, the group’s spokesman, Muhammad Abdullahi, insisted that the corruption allegations against the former governor must not be trivialised or politicised

He said, “We reiterate its firm position that the ongoing prosecution of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, remains a lawful and constitutional matter strictly between him and the Government of Kaduna State. This issue should not be reduced to a mere political drama or emotional manipulation.

“It is a question of accountability and stewardship of public trust. The Kaduna State House of Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee Report (2024) raised serious concerns regarding financial management, public debt profile, and contract procedures under the previous administration.

“It is also a matter of public record that some former appointees and close allies—including Jafaru Sani, Jimmy Lawal, Bashir Saidu, and Samuel Aruwa—are already in custody or undergoing investigation in connection with these allegations.”

Citing Section 15(5) of the Constitution, Abdullahi urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission to carry out a thorough, evidence-based and transparent investigation.

The protesters maintained that the issue was about lawful prosecution, not persecution, adding that El-Rufai should allow the judicial process to run its course in the interest of accountability and justice.

“If those who served in that administration are subjecting themselves to due process, it is only proper that the former governor does the same without politicising the process.

“In line with this constitutional provision, we call on the relevant anti-graft agencies—particularly the EFCC and the ICPC—to do the needful by diligently and transparently continuing their investigations in accordance with constitutional provisions and the rule of law. The process must be thorough, evidence-driven, and free from external interference.

“We emphasise that this is not about persecution; it is about prosecution grounded in law. The courtroom remains the proper venue for vindication. If El-Rufai is confident in his integrity, he should allow the judicial process to run its full course. Let integrity, not rhetoric, determine the outcome,” Abdullahi stated.

Responding, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, appealed for calm and assured the protesters that their petition would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities within the commission.

He said, “The EFCC recognises the right of Nigerians to lawful protest in respect of any issue they feel so concerned about. Your protest and demands will be communicated to the executive chairman accordingly.

“I want to assure you that the EFCC, as we know i,t will do its job professionally by attending to all the issues that you raised in your letter. I also want to encourage you to continue to be peaceful in the exercise of your right because that is what democracy is all about.

“As far as the EFCC is concerned, the right thing will be done. Our processes and procedures will be followed, and Nigerians will see that we have actually acquainted ourselves very well with this issue. All your grievances will be communicated to the appropriate quarters.”

The protest comes amid heightened political tension surrounding the alleged financial improprieties during El-Rufai’s eight-year tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

The former governor is currently facing a N432bn corruption probe after all 28 members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly unanimously endorsed a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the EFCC.

The demonstration also followed a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who accused El-Rufai of portraying himself as a victim of political persecution to evade accountability.

In a post on his X handle on Monday morning, Onanuga said the former governor’s recent public outbursts were calculated attempts to create political tension and divert attention from corruption allegations in Kaduna State.

“One, to create political tension in the country, create an atmosphere of fear and unrest, and then damage the government through deliberate misinformation.

Two, to divert attention from his domestic problems in Kaduna State, where he is facing massive corruption allegations,” he said.

He added, “To draw attention to himself and project himself as a victim of persecution, he wants to nationalise his personal problems with his home state government, knowing that Nigerians will not be on his side over corruption charges.”

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Temitope Ajayi, had earlier accused El-Rufai of playing political games and likened him to “a drowning man holding on to a straw” in a bid to remain politically relevant.

El Rufai is just deflecting the scrutiny that is about to fall on him. The guy has constipated bad belle and he is a nasty piece of works.

First of thallium phosphate is not a toxin, it is a toxicant or a poisonous compound. Used as rat killer before wide control of it's use across the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if a wave of people start dropping from thallium phosphate poisoning in Nigeria.

El Rufai brought it up and should be held responsible for thallium phosphate related deaths in Nogeria, especially if he benefits from such death politically or legally.

10kg of thallium is a lot of deaths.

Another reason why thallium phosphate importation claim by El Rufai sound far-fetched and fishy is that thallium as a heavy metal and locally available in our electronics, glass industries etc. Why bother to import when you can chemically make it locally?

I'll say El Rufai is preparing an alibi for himself or just generally trying to set up the NSA.

El Rufai is a nasty nasty nasty nigger!

Kayode Adebayo,
I make bold to say that Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduadgan is a topnotch senator of distinction by all considerations. And she is a happily married young lady. You might as well go and find out the root cause of the problem between her and her two colleagues before you, as usual, condemn her unjustly, unfairly. Meka

This incompetent nincompoop called Peter Obidiot who doesn't know how the economy works is talking about Nigeria’s debts like Nigeria is the first country in the world to have debt. America, the most developed economy in the world owes $38.5 trillion, not even billions, to China and other economies in the world. The same fool who says he would borrow N7 trillion ($4.5 billion) to create jobs if he win is now talking about Nigeria’s debts. He doesn't know that borrowing N7 trillion will add to Nigeria’s debts.

Unfortunately for him, he will never be president of Nigeria in this lifetime. That's his destiny.

Hahaha! Look at this liar and clown called Peter Obidiot lying to himself, saying he heard that the government doesn't want him to contest. That's why he left Labor Party. Instead of telling Nigerians the truth, that he factionalized and destroyed Labor Party beyond redemption and his incompetence led him to ADC, because he had no other option after destroying the Labor Party.

Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have a stake in ADC. ADC belongs temporarily to Atiku till the real owners resolve his membership in court.

Atiku played on the intelligence of the dummy by inviting him to join ADC in order to boost his own status, knowing fully that once he joins ADC, he can do away with him as he will pose no more threat to his candidacy. The fool stupidly joined ADC and now left hanging. Atiku will defeat the fool during the primaries and he will start crying foul and try to jet out of ADC for another party. Unfortunately, he will be left with few options. Either to go back to Labor Party that he destroyed or join another damaged beyond redemption party like PDP or a party without base. The fool has already lost presidency before 2027.

What an idiot!

I will contest 2027 elections – Peter Obi assures Nigerians

Daily Post

The 2023 elections presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has assured his supporters of his readiness to contest in the 2027 elections.

He noted that he had in good authority that the federal government does not want him to contest, insisting that he will come out even if the elections are being held figuratively in their “bedroom.”

Speaking in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for ADC with the theme, Activating the PO Effect in ADC” on Saturday, Obi urged the people to join hands with him to rescue Nigeria for the future generations, who according to him will suffer the consequences of bad governance going on in the country for decades.

The former Anambra governor stated that the current administration have collected more loans than every other administration, adding that most of the loans will be repaid from 2045 and 2050 when most of the people who plunged the country into indebtedness must have gone.

On why he left the Labour Party, Obi said, ” Democracy must work, I left Labour party when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognize its leadership, that the federal government don’t want me on ballot paper, but I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it holds in their bedroom and if they don’t want to transmit the results, we will transmit it for them.

According to him, Nigeria must get it right in 2027, election results must be transmitted online in real time and whoever fails to transmit results will be transmitted”

Obi, who assured that his administration will invest heavily in education and health if elected, averred that most of the great countries across the world achieved greatness through intentional investment in education, adding that he will do everything possible to pull people out of poverty to reduce criminality.

The presidential aspirant said he will tour the entire country and also all higher institutions to see the real challenges on ground, stressing that he wants to help fix Nigeria now that he has the strength to undertake any difficult task adding that those joining him to realize his ambition must understand that the priority is the future and wellbeing of the people.

He promised to rid Nigeria of corruption saying that the menace will be reduced by 60 percent once a leader and his family has nothing to do with corruption.

He added, ” When I became governor of Anambra State, I advised my wife to forget about the office of first lady because we were not elected together, I approved over 100 C of Os of government lands but have none for myself or family. If you find any, petition me to appropriate authority.

Also addressing the people, Dr Tanko Yunusa, the coordinator of OBIDIENT movement world-wide urged Nigerians to mobilize from every nook and cranny of the country for the 2027 general election.

He urged them to channel their collective energy into the African Democratic Congress as the vehicle for transformation and victory in 2027.

On his own, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the OBIDIENT movement, Dr Ben Smith urged members to be united in pursuit of their goal as divisions or faction will derail the dream of a new Nigeria.

This voteless dummy called Peter Obidiot shot himself in the ass. He left Labor Party he destroyed and factionalized to join ADC that is owned by Atiku and told Atiku he doesn't want to be VP. Now Atiku has collaborated with Makinde of Oyo to be his Vice Presidential candidate, leaving him stranded. The fool is now counting on people he jettisoned inside Labor Party and who are no longer supporting him, and confused Obidiots many of whom have deserted him, knowing he will not be president of Nigeria in 2027, because he doesn’t have a base and Atiku will be ADC presidential candidate. I wonder which votes he is counting on and who is counting, when he is destined to lose Presidency to Tinubu. When he loses to Tinubu in 2027 due to lack of political base and supporters, he will start blaming Tinubu who is working hard to keep his party members and supporters intact, while acquiring new members and supporters from other parties, and accusing him of rigging the election that he lost long time ago due to his incompetence, stupidity, lack of foresight and lack of political strategies.

What a nitwit!

2027: If they don’t count it, we count the person – Peter Obi

Daily Post

Former presidential candidate and chefitain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Peter Obi, has declared that voters must remain vigilant in protecting their ballots during the 2027 general elections, warning against any attempt to manipulate results at polling units

Mr Obi was in Akwa Ibom State as the Akwa Ibom State ObIdient Movement officially joined the ADC.

Speaking on Saturday during the event, Obi stressed the importance of electoral integrity and citizen participation.

“In that polling booth in 2027, if they don’t count it, we count the person,” Obi said.

It was earlier reported by DAILY POST that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the timetable for the 2027 general elections.

According to the schedule, the presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 20, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are set for March 6, 2027.

You have to agree that there must be something wrong with the woman.
Obviously, she is not the only woman in the Senate and probably not the most intelligent or productive.
How come she is always in trouble with everyone? Why do other people find her irksome?

Admit it, PCO, there is more that meets the eye with her. She must be a nasty piece of works! Or at least, graduating to become one!

Femi Olajide,
No! I don't have to!! You must provide me with a reason as to why I have to agree that "there must be something wrong with the woman [Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan].

"Obviously, she is not the only woman in the Senate and probably not the most intelligent or productive."  -  Femi Olajide

Comment:
Femi Olajide,
Natasha may not be the most intelligent woman in the Senate, but I make bold to say that she is not only the most productive Senator amongst the women senators of her time, she is the MOST productive Senator of all the senators of her time - both women and men! And it clearly shows!

How come she is always in trouble with everyone? Why do other people find her irksome?"  -  Femi Olajide

Comment:
Even Jesus Christ was always in trouble with the world (virtually everyone) for doing good. Jesus' Ministry on earth and His modus operandi was totally unorthodox  and made a nonsense of the status quo, for the good of humanity.

Yours truly, Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's brilliant and enviable performance in the Senate is arguably unorthodox and has exposed in no small measure the deceit of virtually all senators - both serving and retired. The status quo has been ruffled, if not damaged by the monumental performance of this visionary and patriotic lady-Senator [Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan]. Any wonder her colleagues have found her level of performance and indeed modus operandi irksome?

May her tribe increase!!
