GMB: Our Hercules By Chiechefulam Ikebuiro

“Any system is only as good as the quality of humanity that runs it”-Professor Wole Soyinka

BY CHIECHEFULAM IKEBUIROOCT 25, 2014

An Augean stable according to the Webster dictionary, is a place filled with great accumulation of filth or corruption.

This definition is actually gotten from the Greek mythology, Augeas.  Augeas had the single greatest herd of cattle in the country but had a problem. His problem was that the stables where he kept the cattle had never been cleaned. His neglect was so great that even the land surrounding them had been unfertilized for many years, due to the unused manure which lay within the compound.

In came Hercules who believed he could clean up the stables. Thinking it would be totally impossible, Augeas promised Hercules a tenth of his cattle if the huge task was finished in a single day. Hercules accepted Augeas' challenge and set about working out a plan in to do the job in a thorough way. The next day Hercules started his formidable labour with his strength and brain. He diverted river Alpheus through the stables which in turns cascaded into the fields below, giving the soil life after being deprived manure for many years. Viola, Hercules had done the impossible-Augeas stable was clean as a whistle!

Nigeria today, I am afraid, is like Augeas' stable, with all hope (almost) lost and we are in serious need of our Hercules.

I was having a discussion months back with a very good friend of mine, when I asked him if he thought anybody could make Nigeria better. His flat answer was NO.I asked why and his simple answer was that the Nigerian ‘system’ is irredeemable. He went on to talk about how there was more to Nigeria’s system than meets the eye. The ‘system’, according to my friend is bigger than anybody and cannot go down like that. I pressed further by asking if he thought no single person in a population of over 160million was capable of fighting the ‘system’. He paused for a while, maybe Buhari, came the reply, albeit skeptically. He would like to see Buhari-"the last hope" so to speak-, at the helm so as to show (me) Nigeria is not redeemable. He thinks the ‘system’ will swallow Buhari too.

There are so many people out there who have lost hope in Nigeria and this exasperates me to say the least. In the midst of plenty, Nigeria has no business being where she is today. To many Nigerians, the country is irredeemable and at the soul of this lost hope is corruption. See, there is no disputing the fact that corruption accounts for almost 100% of why Nigeria is where she is today. Take away corruption and regular power supply won't be a myth...

Take away corruption and you will see our hospitals compete with the best there is worldwide. Take away corruption and see unemployment tackled to almost a standstill and people like Abba Moro won’t have to kill thousands of Nigerians in the name of Job recruitment. Take away corruption and people won't have to die avoidable deaths on our roads. Take away corruption and you wouldn't be buying kerosene at 160/litre-a commodity you are told is subsidized. I'ld need you to come up with the rest as I feel I am already sounding like a broken record.
Nigeria has been managed over the years by deceitful, untrustworthy and negligent leaders (except for one or two) just like Augeas. They have never done anything in the interest of the people. One side enjoys it all while the other feels the pain. It is almost like sadomasochism.

The Nigerian system is filled with so much filth. There is so much public money being controlled and consumed by just a few and we need someone to clean this mess urgently. That person methinks is General Muhammed Buhari.

I know some guns and goons will come out blazing, but I dare say even those who oppose this man openly, admire him in their closet.

Now I have heard so many arguments about Nigeria needing a younger man at the helm. I tell you something for free-This is so true! Is GMB the only one who can make for the change we seek? Hell No! There are so many bright young brains with lofty ideas fighting for space in their heads.
So Why Buhari and what does he want at this age? While I do not disagree that Nigeria needs a younger person (who knows his onion) at the helm, it is worthwhile to note that the very corrupt Nigerian system actually goes beyond government. There are those who are outside government, who have held successive governments by the balls (the subsidy palaver of 2012 comes to mind). These same guys are still around and will be around when the younger man comes. My question now is, will this younger man not buckle when these guys come out guns blazing, squeezing the hell out of his balls? It will be the 8th wonder of the world if he does not. Brethren, the stench out of this stable is choking!

GMB, has seen it all. He has nothing to lose. To those who ask what GMB still wants, I say a better Nigeria where he can retire peacefully in.  A Nigeria where you, me and generations to come can be proud of. In GMB we have zero tolerance for corruption.  Who still remembers Farouk Lawan gate?  Would that have been buried under GMB? Well, I think not. Who still remembers the 20billion dollars missing oil money? Would it be swept under the carpet under GMB? I think not. Do you think Abba Moro will still be at the helm of the ministry of interior after the murder session as well as robbery that were organized in the name of tests under GMB? Again, I think not. On why the elite are scared of him in a recent interview his answer was ‘’they know why’’ and I think we all know why too.

This is someone who is not so intent on materialism, in sharp contrast to what we have today. I understand he does not have a house in Abuja. How is that even possible in Nigeria? Do you know that Prof Tam David West, the petroleum minister under GMB has not had his house painted after all these years? Compare that to the lifestyle of those who have held the same portfolio since then.

GMB comes across as someone who won’t surround himself with unscrupulous elements if elected.

Your body language encourages your subordinates to act as they like. Act like you tolerate corruption and see them loot the treasury dry. Hear GMB speak and you will be convinced he means well for Nigeria. You will be convinced that corruption will not thrive under him. Something tells me he wants nothing more than to get us out of this mess we are in. Nigeria needs a stable mind to steer this ship. Nigeria needs an aficionado.

Have we not had enough? Are we loving the status quo? It is time to put aside tribal and religious sentiments if we want a better Nigeria. Can we please consider the future and generation unborn? Can we look at the bigger picture? Can we please pay no attention to people who will come tell you GMB is on a mission to turn Nigeria to an Islamic state?  I wonder why that was not done when he was at the helm with Tunde Idiagbon-both Muslims. Those that will come tell you he sponsors Boko Haram-the same Boko Haram that made an attempt on his life. These same people just say anything without facts to pull him down. They won’t tell you that most of his domestic staff are Christians.

Please, for the sake of God pay no attention to those who will rubbish Buhari's achievements with PTF. They won’t tell you about the many road constructions as well as infrastructures that were put in place. They won’t tell you he encouraged internal revenue generation as well as indigenous developments; something that guaranteed protection of our foreign reserves. He wanted us to be self-reliant that exportation was highly encouraged .He did not believe that borrowing very heavily, even when presented on a platter was in the interest of Nigeria to the displeasure of the IMF and the west who thought they had the plan to running Nigeria perfectly. Today, we borrow at any opportunity. They won’t tell you that he reduced the cost of running government by reducing government expenditure and that foreign trip for government officials was suspended plus travelling allowance reduced. Today, the cost of running government in Nigeria is out of this world. You won’t hear them say civil service workforce was cut down by Buhari as majority of the workers who did not get there on merit lazied about and guess what, those who got retrenched were not just abandoned; they were made to #DoAgric. He stands for meritocracy and is considerate.

You can never hear them say inflation rate dropped MASSIVELY between 84 and 85and that our currency enjoyed some stability. My brother, I swear they won’t tell you that distribution depots and petroleum storage were set up during his regime. That Oil pipelines were laid throughout the country so crude could be transported to various depots. They will be silent on the fact that construction contract was signed for the Warri and Kaduna refineries as well as partnership agreement with the two operating companies for production of liquefied natural gas.
These same people who will rather tell you unverifiable and trivial lies about GMB are those same people who are scared of Buhari. They have run out of ideas as regards how to pull him down. These are the same people that feed off the sufferings of you and I, and have no intentions of stopping soon, hence the propaganda to stop GMB at all cost. Truly they know what he can do, and whatever he will do will impede their modus operadi-stealing you blind. Simply put, Buhari's coming will take (ill gotten) food out of their tables.

Nigeria needs someone to clean this Augean stable just like Hercules cleaned Augeas' stable. Nigeria needs a GMB to clean up the mess for four years (yes four years is enough to clean up the rot), then we can allow a younger sound mind take over a clean state.

Will GMB seek another term after the four years? My hunch is that he won't after giving us a new beginning.

Now, I may never meet Buhari in my life time, all I just care about is a better Nigeria –A Nigeria where I can live in peace and be proud of .A Nigeria that will provide me and generation unborn , the basic necessities of life. Continuing like this is not an option for me anymore!
We can NEVER have a revolution in this country as Nigerians love life like crazy, and since we cannot have that, can we at least vote in somebody who can clean this Augean stable?
I pray the APC does the needful.

Well said Bro

“What Do Nigerians Want Me To Do?”, Buhari Speaks On The Perception that He Is A Fundamentalist
FEATUREDNEWSOct 25, 2014

Former Head of State, General Muhammdu Buhari has said that he has demonstrated to Nigerians that he is not a fundamentalist and therefore has nothing more to do to change their perception.

He spoke in respect of the perception as been made to believe in some quarters that he is an extremist who will Islamize the country if he becomes the president.

Buhari who is a presidential hopeful under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in an exclusive interview with the cable said “Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians. I had to face one of the governors during one of our party’s meetings [over the issue of religion].

“In 2003, I chose Chuba Okadigbo as my running mate. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. In 2007, I picked Edwin Ume-Ezeoke. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. And in 2010, I chose even a pastor. Pastor Tunde Bakare.

“Honestly, what do Nigerians want me to do? If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do?”

The retired General who said he is keeping an open mind about the possibility of picking a Muslim as his running mate if he emerges the flagbearer of his party said This new phenomenon of religion is another blackmail political confusionists in Nigeria are bringing to the fore.”

“I have not absolutely closed my mind to picking a Christian or Muslim as running mate if I get the ticket. Because I firmly believe that Nigerians, having gone through what they have gone through, realise it is not a matter of religion, but a matter of Nigeria.

“And the main religions, Christianity and Islam, they know and they believe in the almighty God. The question of stealing and short-changing people in the name of religion should stop,” he said.

He likened his situation to that of Moshood Abiola, a southern Muslim, who picked Babagana Kingibe, a northern Muslim, as running mate in the 1993 presidential election. The Muslim-Muslim ticket went on to win an election that is still considered by many as the most credible in Nigeria’s history.

He also made reference to the 1961 northern house of assembly election, when Ibrahim Imam, a Kanuri Muslim from Borno, won an election to represent Tivland, a Catholic domain in the middle belt, after being sponsored by Joseph Tarka, the leading Tiv politician then.

He said religion cannot be an issue if he wins APC’s ticket and goes ahead to win the presidential election, because of the background of many political leaders from the south-west. The wives of Bola Tinubu, APC national leader; Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi; Lagos governor, Babatunde Fashola; Ogun governor, Ibikunle Amosun; and former APC interim chairman, Bisi Akande, are all Christians, Buhari pointed out. “For goodness sake, the children of these political leaders were bred and brought up by Christian mothers. You think those people, wherever they participate, they will bring a religious issue? What kind of people are we? Nigerians will always bring something to cause confusion while we are trying to stabilise the system,” he said.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: I’m not opposed to Muslim-Muslim ticket, says Buhari

October 25
14:00
2014
👤by TheCable

Prev 2 of 4
TheCable: Why should Nigerians prefer you to any other candidate in the presidential race?

Buhari: We need to stabilise the system. And the beauty of democracy is competition. I honestly welcome the competition. I have tried to be elected president three times and I failed three times, and I ended up in the Supreme Court three times. I try to explain to those who are interested why I have been ending up in the Supreme Court. Not because I was hoping that the court would change the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing that it was the PDP that won, but I wanted to get it on the record that when we are trying to stabilise this system, these are part of the difficulties. We provided evidences at the tribunals. There are people who try really to see that the system stabilises, to make sure it reaches credible and international standards. That is a role I have been trying to play all along.

TheCable: So what qualities stand you out from other candidates?

Buhari: That is an unfair question. I would not like to blow my own trumpet. But I think Nigerians are the judges. The only thing I would say is that I have been a governor. To begin with my career as a military man, from lieutenant colonel, that is one pip, in charge of  36 people, to a general commanding a division… I am proud to say  that I am the only officer in the Nigeria army that commanded three out of the four divisions then in the Nigeria army: the second division in Ibadan, the third armoured division in Jos and the fourth division in Lagos, which was moved to Enugu and renamed 82 division. I commanded three divisions out of the four. And then I became command-in-chief, as short as it was, for 20 months.

And politically, I was governor of the northeast, which is now six states, comprising Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba. From there, when Gen. Murtala Muhammed was assassinated [in 1976], and there were additional states in the country and I was moved to Lagos, I was sworn in as member of the Supreme Military Council under Obasanjo’s government and then made federal commissioner of petroleum and chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). And from there I went to the War College in the US, came back and became head of state. And I ended up in jail for three and a quarter years (general laughter). After that, I went home and I decided to join partisan politics in April 2002. So anything a Nigerian politician wants to be, I have been, although in khaki. So I have been attempting since 2003 to go back in civil dress and play partisan politics.

TheCable: A lot of people are saying the problems of Nigeria are so many now, more than what you met in 1983 as military head of state. If you were elected president, what would you do differently from President Jonathan on power supply, for instance? How can we tackle this problem?

Buhari: It cannot be done overnight. The hearings conducted by the National Assembly on NEPA or Power Holding Company of Nigeria, of blessed memory, pension fund and petroleum industry show the extreme mismanagement of what Nigeria stands for… because if you remove petroleum industry, if you remove the organisation of pension funds and power, Nigeria will collapse. I refer you to my declaration that in 1999 when the PDP came, power generation was hovering between 3,000 and 4,000 megawatts. It is now hovering between that number again after $20 billion had been spent. This is what the hearings exposed. And nobody has been punished.

What happened to the $20 billion? What happened to pension funds? What happened to another $20 billion exposed by a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria [Lamido Sanusi]? All these things the PDP governments between 1999 and now have not been able to explain to Nigerians. And the remarkable thing about Nigeria is that: because having been a minister, governor and head of state, you do not go to any parastatal or any ministry without meeting financial instructions and administrative instructions, but Nigerians have the audacity at each level to cast that away and keep doing what they like. And no one is being punished.

Buhari says he will support whoever gets APC ticket if he doesn’t get it
TheCable: Would you like to dig up the report before we move forward?

Buhari: If you try to do that, the state will immediately collapse because a lot of the institutions have been compromised. With whom are you going to work? My own belief now is that you just have to draw a line and move forward. But since cases are in the court no matter what, you have to allow the judiciary to do its job. We can hurry them up a bit, but we must allow the judiciary because it is not a profession you can take over their duties. It is the third arm of government. We can come as the military as we did and remove some parts of the constitution, but most of the constitution have to remain and again it is the judiciary that will have to interpret what remains.

But in a democratic setting, you cannot do what the National Assembly and the Judiciary are empowered by law to do. It is impossible. And look again, when our soldiers started giving interviews to the foreign press that they were being sent to the war front [against Boko Haram] with obsolete weapons, the National Assembly attempted to call the service chiefs and show them the budgets they have been approving over the years for arms and ammunition and for military hardware and software. Where is the money? Have you heard of the hearing again?

TheCable: What do you think they are doing wrong in the power sector?

Buhari: If you could recall, after 1983 elections, NEPA virtually collapsed. But when we came in 1984-1985, we had the late Lukman, an engineer. He was in Plateau when I was working as GOC 2 Armoured Division. I got to know him. He was an extremely truly hardworking engineer of great integrity. I put him in charge of NEPA. If you could recall, I did the tour of NEPA installations and some industries. And we ordered some spare parts mostly of the thermal station and we were using the military C130 aircraft to bring spare parts.

By the time we were removed in August 1985, blackout in Lagos had been forgotten because the thermal station had been made functional. Lagos was the home of industries. Industries were given priority because of employment. If you close the factories, as they have done now, there will be no goods and services. Power is the most important thing for our sustained development. But unfortunately, the PDP government has failed to understand or accept that. Hence money, billions of dollars, goes down the drain.

If from 1999 till now, in my own perception, Kainji, Jebba, Shiroro had been repaired and brought to optimal usage, and we do the thermal stations… it is a question of changing spare parts because the gas is there. The studies of Nigerian petroleum, the studies of 1970s when I became minister of petroleum, showed that Nigeria was a petroleum country in name; mostly it is a gas country. In the east of the Niger, the gas reserve there was fantastic. That was why LNG project was initiated. You cannot initiate LNG except you have a 30-year reserve to back you up. But this means nothing to the PDP government. It is not a priority. That’s why we find ourselves where we are.

TheCable: What’s your position on petroleum industry bill?

Buhari: I know the PIB is a non-issue as far as this government is concerned. So I am telling you practical things that will transform the economy [beyond the PIB]. I will tell you one thing about industries. The Nigerian textile firms in Ikeja, Aba, Kaduna, Kano, they used to employ over 300,000 Nigerians in the 1980s. Now they employ less than 30,000. A serious government would get worried if over 250,000 in one industry are put out of job. Because behind every Nigerian worker are five dependants. This is my problem with PDP government. Unseriousness. That is the textile industry alone.

TheCable: Part of the key recommendations in the PIB is deregulation that will lead to the removal of petrol subsidy. Removal of subsidy is sensitive issue. How do you hope to handle that if you are elected president?

Buhari: When we came into power, technically in December 1983 but we started in 1984, I had been part of Obasanjo’s government in petroleum. Nigeria handed over to the second republic government a relatively physically-secure and economically-safe country. I can’t recall exactly how much foreign reserve we had, but there was physical security and the economy was good. That is what the military handed over to the second republic.

By the time the military came back and I happened to be the head of state, if anybody told you that he knew how much Nigeria was owing, it was a lie. So we had two committees, one international and the other local, to find out the debt Nigeria had accumulated over those years and how. This report has never seen the daylight because up to the time we were removed, it was not brought to us. But when it was eventually brought, by which time I was safely under lock and key, nobody could do anything about it.

Secondly the American president then, Ronald Reagan, sent his friend, General Walters, to me saying we should accept the IMF programme. What was the IMF programme then? World Bank and IMF wanted us to remove the so-called petroleum subsidy, to devalue the naira, to remove the subsidy on flour, as they perceived it. But what we knew was that in some of the states, workers were being owed nine months salaries. I was in Plateau state and I saw the so-called progressive governors crisscrossing this country almost every other month, making  a lot of noise when the ordinary worker was not being paid.

I told Walters we were not going to devalue the naira; we were not going to remove any subsidy. And if you recall by the time we were removed, one naira was equal to 1.2 or 1.5 dollars. The naira was run down to N80 to a dollar by General Babangida’s regime. I refused to remove the so-called petroleum subsidy. I said I had been in the petroleum industry for three and a quarter years. I signed the contracts for Warri and Kaduna refineries. I signed the contract for more than 20 depots, from Makurdi to Ilorin to Gusau to Kano to Maiduguri. And then pipes were laid over 3,200 kilometres. Nigeria didn’t borrow a kobo.

I can understand Nigerians being charged the cost of petroleum if you can work it out… because we know how Nigerian crude costs per barrel from the world market, the transportation cost to the refinery, the money for refining and then the transportation to the filling station. I agree Nigerians should pay for that to sustain the industry.

But for someone to say they are subsidising, who is subsidising who? This industry, the prospecting and development, were paid for by the Nigerian people. We spent money to discover the oil. Who then is subsidising who? To come and kill Nigerians, you know, to put that amount of burden on them when their salary is hardly enough for them to eat, pay for their bill of their healthcare, and education of their children. Who are you subsidising? It is Nigerian petrol, it is Nigerian capital that was used to mine it, it is Nigerians doing most of the work, so who are you subsidising? Subsidy for what?

And even then, if you go and interview Tam David-West, when I came back as head of state, and we stopped [illegal] bunkering, Nigeria was choked with product. We were exporting 100,000 barrels per day of refined products because Warri, Kaduna, Port Harcourt alone was doing 250,000 a day, the old refinery and the new one built… and we found out Nigeria was normally consuming about 300,000 barrels a day. All the people that were doing the [illegal] bunkering abandoned their jetties, their barges, because they knew who were sending them to jail or beyond. But now, Nigeria goes to world market and buys petrol as much as any other person does with all the infrastructure in place. That is how efficient the PDP government is (laughter). Click for the rest

Subject: Re: GMB: Our Hercules By Chiechefulam Ikebuiro

Good write up brother about GMB. He may be the only savior Nigeria has but his image is down the drain. He has to polish his image more and look acceptable and willing to work across ethnicity. His party is viewed across as a Moslems and sectional party and no accommodations for christains.
You blew my mind when you stated that most, if not all his "domestic staff" or better word for it is "house maids" are Christians. What does that mean to an average educated Nigerian. I guess, it shows that he trusted Christians to drive him around, cook, clean and perform minor chores and carting his brief case for him. I bet you, he pays those domestic slaves peanuts.
However, when it comes to picking party leaders, he will select only Moslems. Look at APC top party leaders and assess for your self.
I don't know him but looking at his utterances, public posturing, telling GEJ that he will make governing Nigeria a difficult task for him and he must endure that GEJ fails as a leader after beating him on the poll. Such person should not be our leader. He has made any public condemnation of Boko Haram killing Christians, bombing & killing travelers going to the East, youth coppers, innocents soldiers and police stationed at their respective barracks prior to the attack on his vehicle?
Can you give the reading public federal roads completed in the East, South-South with Petroleum Trust funds when GMB was in charge.
If Nigerians, especially the younger generation will depend on old man like GMB to rescue and make Nigeria a better place for all, then we are in trouble and there is no hope or future for Nigeria and this younger generation.

Thanks for sharing your thought.

Let the singers of nauseating paeans to the treasonable felon; the undisciplined soldier and tyrant, General Buhari keep coming. Maybe, Nigerians will begin to recognize the vapid rhymes, and the ugly drumbeat, as the din of the sing song becomes louder.

Now, the treasonable felon is a Hercules: a mythical figure, upon whom mere mortals might heap all sorts of magical powers and worship as well.  What a delirium!

I thank you.

You are a mental case on a gradual self exposure. Before now I thought a smack on your little head with a canoe paddle by youre native Kalabari was your cure, but how wrong was I. A ward so far and apart in thinking and disposition with a father that bore him must not be well. Fubara West.

Buhari supporters are always resulting to personal attacks and insults (see below, re "mental case"). If this is not a sign of Buhari presidency should he win, I must not know how to read trend. To be clear, given the poor conduct exhibited by supporters of Buhari after Buhari himself recognized this poor behavior and WARNED his followers not to engage in such abject attitude. They, Buhari supporters, will not grow up or learn better.

Are we as citizens not have the rights to render our opinions on an individual that seek public office? Of course, we the people do have those rights, and must use it in spite of all the insults and name callings by political vagabonds.

God help Buhari supporters see REASON. "I"

Dear Wilson,
I like to say that majority of people living within Nigeria and even many foreigners are of the view that corruption and indiscipline are the greatest problems militating against the progress of our country. I like you to honestly tell this forum who in your humbly opinion,is the better candidate between Buhari and Jonathan to address this serious problem ?

Folks,
IF Buhari becomes APC presidential candidate I really don't have an issue with his picking a fellow Muslim as his VP candidate. If he wants to introduce total sharia then he will find out quickly that Nigeria is a multi religious country where no one can impose his own religion on others.

My major problem with Buhari is that he has no clue about the solutions to any of the economic problems facing Nigeria --- and we cannot afford to go back to trade by barter economic policies in 2015!

Here are a few of his answers to Cable's questions:
TheCable: A lot of people are saying the problems of Nigeria are so many now, more than what you met in 1983 as military head of state. If you were elected president, what would you do differently from President Jonathan on power supply, for instance? How can we tackle this problem?

Buhari: It cannot be done overnight. The hearings conducted by the National Assembly on NEPA or Power Holding Company of Nigeria, of blessed memory, pension fund and petroleum industry show the extreme mismanagement of what Nigeria stands for… because if you remove petroleum industry, if you remove the organisation of pension funds and power, Nigeria will collapse........
One of my secondary school teachers would call this off point. The question is SPECIFIC. IF elected president in 5 months time what would you do differently? If you don't know what you will do by now when will you know it. This is the issue that we should be debating.

What are the alternative economic policies on offer? Will you reverse the privatization of PHCN? Will you return to the era of 'fertilizer subsidies' or continue the current program of direct subsidy to farmers? What is your view about the petroleum industry bill? Will your government build new refineries? what will you do with the present refineries?

These are the issues that need discussing.

Joe

Hello,

I could not tell your name and would have addressed you with your name. I apologize for not citing your name.

The answer to your question is easy. You gave me two options: JONA and Buhari. If these are the choices, any day any time I will choose JONA ten times over a Despot and Murderer Buhari, are you kidding me with those choices?

You must be new to reading me in the fora, that's okay. Because if you are a regular reader you will know that as far as I am concerned and am firm on this, Buhari is a criminal and needs to be Court-Marshalled and then publicly executed at Bar Beach for using guns to destroy Nigeria's democracy.

Buhari was president and his legacy set Nigeria back at least 2 generations (60 years). Buhari brought decay upon decay to Nigeria and was the foundation for IBB drug infested society.

Dude! Don't get me started with that ole#1 called Buhari.

Btw: how many people have served as Governors 6 different times, run for president 3 times and lost, head various parastatals such as PTF and NNPC, and yet will not give others a chance? That person is Buhari thus Buhari is bad news for Nigeria.

Wilson:

How do you know that they are really really Buhari supporters? They could be planted there by GEJ to hurt Buhari by calling others ugly names to make them hate Buhari.

Look, there was this candidate in Chicago that had his supporters call voters at 5 am asking for their support on behalf of his opponent. They got so angry at his opponent for waking them up at 5am and deemed the opponent irresponsible. They voted for him. So watch out. All these guys calling me names may be GEJ plants in Buhari camp. Could you imagine a Buhari "supporter" reminded us that the presidential candidate did not know if he had any money in the bank or how much when he approached his banker for N27mil to buy form. That means he would not know if CBN had any money or not if elected.

When I say that GEJ is not expecting to run opposed, and that he would love to face Buhari again, your post below confirms it. If Buhari faces GEJ in 2015, GEJ will trounce him. Mind you, I will not be voting. Could you believe that where I was last night people were only discussing what GEJ should do after the 2015 election. They take GEJ's victory in 2015 as a done deal. And I keep asking if GEJ is the one sponsoring Buhari for an easy victory? How can a guy who does not know if he has money in his bank account or not run for president? Hahaha Stevek, take am easy with some multiple faced people. At least we know that Jonathan has gotten all the clues Buhari doesn't have (unrestrained stealing) and we have seen the wonderland he has turned Nigeria into. Reading things like this will convince that the enablers of rouges and empty governance are already gasping as to snatch even paradoxes to convey their weary points.

The Dodgy One,

Buhari doesn't have to. All he is needed for is to enforce the laws of the land and stop Nigeria's number one ailment - CORRUPTION. He is Mr. Rule of Law. That's all.

The president doesn't run the economy of the country. The president has an economic teamof highly qualified people that runs the economy. Even the military government of Abacha had Prof. Aluko.

If the president did, Nigeria will be back in the 10th century, going by what your principal for which you are vigorously campaigning, Jonathan the Ebelechukwu Azikiwe, knows about anything!

Strange that you should now say that you have no problem with a muslim-muslim ticket. A couple of weeks agao, you posted something here that indicated that such a ticket is highly problematic until I pointed out to you that the Abiola- Kinkigbe ticket that won a national election was a muslim-muslim ticket.

Keep on lying, 'pastor', Hell ain't half-full!

We don't need any interview on this issue because we all know the facts. Those that are deviously selling these lies as a life saver after wrecking Nigeria for sixteen years may not need the interview either for they know the truth only that they hope that one way they can con Nigerians to buy their lies and approve more years of wreckage for them and their ilk.

We DO need that interview on this issue and lots more interviews because we REALLY don't know all the facts. More importantly, we need the interviews to discern each candidate's SOLUTIONS to improve the voters choice for the country.

Buhari supporters that are deviously selling these lies that Buhari is a messiah and savior of Nigeria after Buhari wrecked Nigeria for 2 generations should cease from telling lies and let the people be informed. Yes, we need all the interviews we can get. Thank God, this interview exposed Buhari daftness.

Can you post where you and I had the above referenced conversation ? You have started your binge drinking again and will soon end up again in Prince George county jail.  Hehehehe!

Just imagine a US presidential candidate asked for his economic plans saying he has no clue, he will find highly qualified economic managers bla bla bla!

I do pray you are NOT as stupid as you sound most times. If it is the booze at least a good rehab can save you.

I don't mean ANY interview, I mean a credible interview will expose the candidates and enable Nigerians to make best choice. What is wrong with that whether the candidates are from my neck of the woods or not?

Please be for real. Buhari is daft and even worst, a criminal against all Nigerians. Lord have mercy! "I"

Okay feel free to read but be just to strip yourself of your ethnic shawl and be objective. Words are cheap and you can drop some that tickles your fancy and obliterates the scare Buhari has become amongst those that seek the continuation of the present reign of vampires. But it changes nothing; least of all the collective pangs Nigerians are facing in the hands of those you promote. I know you will certainly get some thanks from some of my roving mercenary Igbo internet jobbers roving aimlessly on this list serve who share your viewpoints.

My sister Deborah Oden Adie asked the question: how can a former Head of State who earns 300 Million Naira per annum, say he has no N27 Million to buy presidential nomination form? A very pertinent question, I must say. And as someone who believe in knowing the truth before acting, I took my enquiry to the Nigerian Ministry of Finance and this was the response I got: Yes, it is true, all Heads of State collect on the average 23 Million Naira every month, apart from General Buhari. He (General Buhari) objected to collecting most of the allowances, insisting they were bogus and therefore amount to corruption. He personally wrote a letter to the Ministry to that effect. As a result, he collects only N2.3 Million a month, equivalent of 10% of what he is entitled, which he believes is his legitimate earning!! Imagine how honest this man is!! May God give us the wisdom to accept reality" - Oladiran Fadipe

This above is what I would like to read and read and read over and over and over again if I were a Nigerian.
I would not want to read what Buhari stated when he now wanted to be President.
It is not what he stated when he is sober, it is what he stated when he was Tribally drenched with anger, and Tribally inebriated that I think mattered most.

I wish someone could advise Buhari not to deceive himself by contesting as his primarily muslim northern supporters are not telling him the truth. Some of them think Nigeria begins and ends in Daura and environs and because they support him they believe he is a popular candidate but the truth is that whereas Buhari has some qualities that made him a "good" military dictator he will be a misfit for a civilian regime. His parochial approach to matters and do or die politics that makes him feel that only him can save Nigeria leaves much to be desired; not to mention his unguarded statements over the years and his fanatical tendencies. All these are small compared to what disqualifies him most-he was the same man who raped democracy in Nigeria and the only military regime that had no plan of returning back government to civilians in the history of Nigeria but today wants to reap where he did not sow! I wish him a happy retirement from politics come 2015 elections!

Buhari's failure to become Nigeria's president will be like Awolowo's failure to become Nigeria's president . . . Nigeria and not Awolowo lost a good opportunity to take a leap forward in national development. We should therefore recognize what we will lose as a nation before Buhari retires from politics. I am addressing those whose opposition to Buhari is not borne out of self-interest as beneficiaries of the current situation in Nigeria.

Pwaveno Bamaiyi,
Are you happy with the fraud and cheating going on in this country and pray that the same dream continues in order to quickly generate your "unmerited favour" in billions like your brother, Lt General Ishaya Bamaiyi, the former Abacha chief of army staff ?
Is your fear based on the fact that if Buhari was elected president of Nigeria, he would probe the source of income of people like your brother, General Bamaiyi, who voluntarily parted with the sum of $9million while in prison custody to those he knew from day one as certified 419 ?
Kindly name any Nigerian known to you ( dead or alive ) that is as stupid as your brother ? Your opinion doesn't count to a person like me; if you don't want Buhari as president, should we tell Jonathan to continue with the mismanagement of our economy or,like your brother, prefer "gentlemen" like barrister Fred Ajidua and "pastor" Ade Elumelu ( aka Ade Bendel ) to govern us ? To compare Awo to Buhari in any matter or form is a blatant insult and total disrespect to a political juggernaut in the person of Awo!

Buhari is a fucking Despot! Awo is not.
Buhari is a damn Murderer! Awo is not,

Better yet, read the following citation as it captures Buhari's characteristics:

Buhari's "parochial approach to matters and do or die politics that makes him feel that only him can save Nigeria ... he was the same man who raped democracy in Nigeria and the only military regime that had no plan of returning back government to civilians in the history of Nigeria but today wants to reap where he did not sow!"

Buhari is the most selfish Dictator Nigeria has ever produced, the dude will just not give others a chance. How ridiculous is that. It must always be about Buhari. Wow! Thank God 9ja don pass that! "I"

Ayo, If I were you I would not be too fast to compare Buhari with Awolowo. Awo, as we fondly called him, left giant footprints especially in Western Nigeria which gave you guys in the West an educational advantage, so to speak, over other regions especially us in the north. Buhari on the other hand did nothing to make the north better placed in Nigeria than increase the number of beggars on the streets and infact due to his drunkenness with power was overthrown by a bosom friend IBB! There is nothing to point at in the north as a landmark achievement of Buhari for all the years he was in the corridors of power since the 1970s when he became a governor. Infact he was part of almost every regime including the inglorious reign of Abacha during which he was wining and dining with the dark-goggled dictator as PTF chairman while Nigerians were dying! I will be very careful to commit power into the hands of such a callous man who felt comfortable in such a brutal regime and did nothing to help Nigerians out of the tyranny of the Abacha days. His dead silence during those Abacha days was an unpardonable sin and I put it to you that many Nigerians may be quiet now but have not forgotten that Buhari was romancing with the Abacha regime when Nigerians were suffering. The Buhari apologists brag about him being corruption free and all such blah blah blah but cannot point at any lasting achievements and impact he has made on Nigeria as if he is the only man that is corruption free in Nigeria, if indeed he is! Buhari barely has enough support among the core muslim north but I still remember the massive support Awo had across Nigeria that even in my village in northern Nigeria we had a fond song with his name which I still remember to this day! On the other hand go to Uyo or Aiyetoro or some other place outside the core north and see if Buhari means anything to them. In fact go to some parts of the north and see if Buhari is a popular candidate! There is no iota of doubt in my mind that Buhari is destined to fail the elections in 2015 and Nigeria will be better off without such hypocrites as Buhari who does not even know how much he has in his bank account! Imagine and he wants to lead Nigeria so tomorrow he can tell us he does not know how much Nigeria has or owes. I also feel sorry for Nigeria that we do not seem to have an alternative to the weak and seemingly visionless GEJ. I wish we had better candidates than Buhari and GEJ but if we must choose a lesser evil-then let it be GEJ!

Make no mistake about it like some have done-there is absolutely no link or relationship between Dr P.H. Bamaiyi and Lt. General Ishaya Bamaiyi! We are walls apart and if you knew the meaning of the first name Pwaveno you would not be making this mistake. But its not your fault because in a country with over 250 ethnic groups its not possible to know where everybody comes from by their names. Secondly make no mistake about it, I am not a supporter of PDP or GEJ and perhaps have criticised him more than you. I have the opportunity to be part of GEJ's regime if I wanted to and could have enriched myself but by providence have not stepped my feet in Nigeria since 2009 for anything! Buhari and GEJ in my opinion are the wrong candidates for Nigeria at this time and unfortunately our political parties have not given any better alternatives. My heart weeps for Nigeria. God have mercy!

May be Goodluck Jonathan should employ you as his chief jester .Lol Some of you guys want Nigeria to move fast in development like Singapore,Malaysia etc and at the same time argue that you don't need a strong leader, how would you reconcile the mutually exclusive positions in a mismanaged country like ours ?
Do you think sanity and development present in the aforementioned countries came through prayers or on the platter of gold ? The feats came through firm and no- nonsense leadership which many Nigerians see in a man like Buhari .
Till kingdom come,Nigeria will remain undeveloped until we elect ( or appoint ) a firm leader who is going to use a big stick to sanction the enemies of our nation who specialized in sharing and wasting the resource meant for the masses. Unlike you,I don't care who or where the agent of the change is coming from; all I want to see is a better Nigeria during my lifetime and don't foresee any change under this corrupt regime .
Yoruba people have a proverb which says :" a pastor who plans to pray for a group of mad men must ensure that he eyes are not closed during the prayer ". This is a very dysfunctional country where the majority are very lawless and dishonest, you need a very tough man to challenge the charade not a "sme- sme" leader like Jonathan who can't even question or challenge a very corrupt minister who spent a whopping sum of 10billion naIra to maintain three private jets . If you genuinely want an end to corruption, indiscipline and other vices, kindly think twice except you too want a share from the piece of national cake.

Can you give us examples of Buhari's parochialism? If Obasanjo was judged to be successful first as a military dictator and later as a civilian, why can't Buhari? Why should Buhari alone be blamed for a collective decision of then Supreme Military Council? Why is everybody assuming Jonathan will win instead of doing their part in ensuring he doesn't?   Isn't this attitude defeatist? Where and when did Buhari talk about him being the only savior? Can you cite examples of Buhari's fanaticism?

My dear Igbo kinsmen/women,

Today is Orie market. It shall be well with everybody.

Please let everybody remember to go out and vote on Af market day, November 4, 2014. My people, there is snake in the grass! Everybody should remember what the chicken told the parrot which was laughing at him when he was being dissected. The chicken reminded the parrot that he should remember that all dissectable animals are the same and suffer the same fate!

Today, it is the son of a Luo man from Kenya who was born here. Tomorrow, it might be the son of an Igbo man who was born here. But God forbid!

Please let everybody who is able plan to go out and vote because of the wellbeing of our children and their posterity. We shall never fall off the tree because of the monkey and its pranks. In the words of the ch pasnja man, ‘Na we and dem’ in this country! Whoever rejects our ability to rule, would it be his mother then? (apologies to Dee Sam nnaka Mbakwe)

 Thank you!

I've told you several times and will repeat it once more if only it would sink. I'm not loyal to Jonathan. My loyalty is to truth and objectivity at all times.  I criticise Jonathan too but not blindly and maliciously like you. Anyone who doesn't join you to condemn Jonathan blindly is, to you, loyal to Jonathan and must be getting something from him. That was the basis of your blind attack on Mr Bamaiyi and General Bamaiyi.  And instead of apologising when your usual gaffe was pointed out, your response was "noted and appreciated. Lol".
You can’t blackmail anyone to follow your line of reasoning, no matter how hard you try.

His parochial approach to matters and do or die politics that makes him feel that only him can save Nigeria leaves much to be desired; not to mention his unguarded statements over the years and his fanatical tendencies. All these are small compared to what disqualifies him most-he was the same man who raped democracy in Nigeria and the only military regime that had no plan of returning back government to civilians in the history of Nigeria but today wants to reap where he did not sow! I wish him a happy retirement from politics come 2015 elections!

Folks,
IF Buhari becomes APC presidential candidate I really don't have an issue with his picking a fellow Muslim as his VP candidate.

Joe

“What Do Nigerians Want Me To Do?†, Buhari Speaks On The Perception that He Is A Fundamentalist

If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do?â€

The retired General who said he is keeping an open mind about the possibility of picking a Muslim as his running mate if he emerges the flagbearer of his party said This new phenomenon of religion is another blackmail political confusionists in Nigeria are bringing to the fore.â€

The question of stealing and short-changing people in the name of religion should stop,†he said.

Nigerians will always bring something to cause confusion while we are trying to stabilise the system,†he said.

"All he is needed for is to enforce the laws of the land and stop Nigeria's number one ailment - CORRUPTION. He is Mr. Rule of Law. That's all."

Stevek,
Will Buhari start enforcing Nigeria's laws by submitting himself before a firing squad for committing Treason? That way we will know that everyone is under the law unlike what you Buharists have done - created an above the law ethnic group that can stage coups at will with no repercussions. Do as I say and not as I do does not work anymore. No one is intimidated anymore. PERIOD.

If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do?” - Buhari
********************************************************************************************************

Funny,  this time around he should choose the Pope as his running mate. That is what Nigerians want him to do. Even at that, we will not be fooled by his age long gimmick. To agree to be used as a running mate to Buhari is political suicide for anybody. Who has ever survived such a curse politically?
Tunde Bakare had more political clout and relevance until he made the mistake of condescending to Buhari's running mate. Guess what has become of him politically?

Buhari is a religious and tribal bigot. He lacks the character, temperament, capacity and competence to be president of a free Democratic Nigeria. He is a treasonable felon with nothing to offer Nigeria but strife, sharia, violence and voodoo economic stagnation.

STEVEK, BUHARI DOES NOT NEED TO BE AN ECONOMIST TO ASPIRE TO BE PRESIDENT. HE DOES NOT NEED TO BE AN EXPERT IN ANY FIELD TO BE PRESIDENT. BUHARI ANSWERED THE QUESTION VERY WELL BUT JOE OUT OF PURE BAD BELLY JUST TOOK AN ASPECT OF HIS ANSWER AND WANT TO MAKE AN ISSUE OUT OF IT. JOE OUGHT TO HAVE REPRODUCED THE ENTIRE ANSWERS GIVEN BY BUHARI NOT JUST AN ASPECT. THE ENTIRE ANSWERS MUST BE GIVEN AN HOLISTIC CONSTRUCTION NOT JUST AN ASPECT. THIS IS HOW DOCUMENTS ARE CONSTRUED.

Ezeana,

Do your calculations and permutations very well. That is the gains of having education. Do not follow someone blindly. If you in all honesty think that other Nigerians will continue to wait for President GEJ to continue to lead Nigeria to perdition please put on your thinking cap and grow up. We have moved on and Nigeria will be better for it.

"I have the opportunity to be part of GEJ's regime if I wanted to and could have enriched myself but by providence have not stepped my feet in Nigeria since 2009 for anything! Buhari and GEJ in my opinion are the wrong candidates for Nigeria at this time and unfortunately our political parties have not given any better alternatives. My heart weeps for Nigeria. God have mercy!" By Pwaveno Bamaiyi

Reply: My sentiment exactly! My heart indeed weeps for Nigeria. At some point, though, those of us that feel this way must begin to make moves to better the country. We cannot have a bleeding heart forever! "I"

Around mid 1970s or so, the Chilean leadership under the army General Pinochet sent their young and top economists to Chicago Shool, Harvard and MIT to learn monetarism mainly under the tutelage of the globally respected economist, late Milton Friedman .
When the US trained economists returned to work in Chile, it's on records that they achieved almost nothing to effect the required changes because the theories learned in America couldn't address the economic realities  in a corrupt country like Chile. If the problems of corruption, greed and indiscipline are not well addressed in Nigeria, 30 Nobel Prize winners in economics can't assist our country out of this predicament . Let's learn how to put the first thing first in order to achieve a lasting benefit for our society ; once you address the aforementioned vices, all other vices would automatically address themselves .

Am truly enjoying Pwaveno takes on Buhari, thus my citation of it.

For example:

"Infact he [Buhari] was part of almost every regime including the inglorious reign of Abacha during which he was wining and dining with the dark-goggled dictator as PTF chairman while Nigerians were dying! The Buhari apologists brag about him being corruption free and all such blah blah blah but cannot point at any lasting achievements and impact he has made on Nigeria as if he is the only man that is corruption free in Nigeria, if indeed he is!"

Buhari needs to help his reputation, as I have indicated multiple times by selecting contemporary politicians to become the ticket of APC. I believe at this twilight moment in Buhari's political history he should summon the courage and help select the best ticket for APC and Nigeria, Atiku is definitely not it either. Nigeria needs new blood in politics.

Thanks ya'all. "I"

If they want to lie they ll butcher GMB statements to fit their trade instead of quoting him verbatim.

This is GMB a Muslim fanatic according a Nigerian who worked with him at the time:

@zvyyvd AbulHashim a retired soldier on GMB

"During his time as Commandant of the 3rd Armoured in Jos, GMB, on his own accord exempted Christians from duties on sundays.

Interestingly, he denied Muslims the same right on Friday, on account of the absence of a work free day in Islam.

Again ask yourself, if GMB were religiously intolerant, would he risk his aspiration and standby a religious leader of another faith.

So if you find yourself disliking GMB because of his ethnic/religious orientation, then may be you need to re-evaluate who the bigot really is.

Nafata, you do not speak for Christians? I am a Christian, an ardent one for that matter, you do not speak for me. Buhari is my choice, and the choice of millions of Christians in Nigeria.

You are talking about Buhari choosing Okadigbo, Ume-Ezeoke based on political expediency. I read you here and all I see is expediency personified. You are a flase Christian to any extent you deem yourself a Christian. You have made it your mission to lie and smear a man based on sheer contrivances? That iin my world is criminal. What is your agenda? Who do you want to tell Okadigbo was a stooge to Buhari or Ume-Eze-Oke for that matter meant for political usage by Buhari. Get the hell out of here. You must find people to insult, not those folks - Okadigbo and Ume-Ezeoke.

You have issues with the name Buhari that I cannot for the life of me fathom. I am not afraid of Buhari, nor the persistent lie spread by you that Buhari even thinks of "islamizing" Nigeria. That is arrant nonsense. Did you ever hear Buhari say in the debates you watched but blocked your ears to what Buhari had to say - that any politician in Nigeria who thinks of favoring one religion over the other, has failed already. I know you did not hear that, and even if you heard him say that, your mission would have been ruined.

And there you spewing infantile, unmitigated lie that Buhari sent soldiers to force traders to sell below market price. You must have been in Mars then for I was on earth, this earth, and there was no such thing you attribute to Buhari. If anything, during the abridged Buhari leadership, the creative juices of young Nigerians flowed; Nigerians sourced local materials for most everything they needed. You were probably a child then and truly do not know what you are talking about. It was real pride for Nigerians to showcase their work made out of local products

On economics, what economics do you have now? Chinese invaded economics? Economics by thieves and for thieves? Was Nigeria not better off during what infantile heads want us to believe primitive economics by Buhari. What economics do you have that Buhari does not understand? Where is local manufacture in Nigeria today? We read Nigeria is growing by some made up huge percentage, and I ask, based on what? Where is the manufacture? Where are the products and produce say from farm and the like? You must have been too young then to know what transpired, and here you are regurgitating smear and propaganda you fed yourself with no discernment whatsoever it is clear.

You mission is unclear only to the undiscerning, and you are working too hard at it. You have to tell folks that you are not the BIGOT you claim Buhari is.

No prize for guessing right — the October 15 presidential declaration, by former military Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, is sending the Goodluck Jonathan establishment into a tizzy.  But it should surprise no one that the Jonathan camp is jumpy.
Never in the history of Nigeria has government been so demystified, as under President Jonathan.  To act right, the Jonathan Presidency is annoyingly impotent.  But to act wrong, it oozes brazen, devil-may-care impunity.  Gone, with the winds, are basic etiquettes that make government tolerable because it acts responsible.  From almost all indices, the administration is a flat failure.
In the context of soaring insecurity, take the Chibok fiasco, on which Jonathan seems to have hit blind panic.  There have been perennial news, at least in the last three weeks, that the Chibok girls would soon taste freedom, after six months in the Boko Haram dungeon.  Monday, October 20 was to be the sweet freedom day, after which a ceasefire announced by Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, would have held.  But all seems to have ended in fiasco, with the girls’ release and the ceasefire turning a mirage.
Indeed, the Chibok affair would appear Jonathan’s unravelling point.  When the messy affair started, the president and his men (and women) feigned disbelief; and lived in the denial that the ploy was some stunt by some political opponents, thus losing crucial lead time.
Now, to resolve the political denouement, the administration appears trapped.  Jonathan is anxious to reveal the most open secret in Nigeria’s political history: his zest to run in 2015.  Yet, without the resolution of Chibok, even the president himself knows he embarks on a journey to nowhere, though his spin machine would try to put the failure on the neck of some nebulous “opposition”.
The Chibok failure is replicated almost on all sectors of the polity and economy.
Public finance:  No government in Nigerian history has been so brazen in its (mis)management of the Federation Account.  Revenue shortfalls may not be novel.  What is novel is the consistent shortfalls now come with absolutely no logical explanations; laced with partisan conspiracy theories that the ploy is allegedly to cripple opposition governors because of 2015.  Yet, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance minister, claims Nigeria is not broke!
Religion and ethnicity: The president and his party have not flinched from the religious bomb for partisan gains.  President Jonathan himself started lobbing political bazookas from church pulpits, passing himself off as a persecuted Christian president at the mercy of Muslim anarchists, to gain explosive sympathy.  Without much ado, PDP spokesman Olisa Metuh, tagged the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) an “Islamic party”, his own emotive way of blunting the party’s perceived potency.
And open sesame!  A country, fractious at the best of times, is now in a fierce hubbub of Christian-Muslim antipathy!
Meanwhile, the passive volcano of ethnic bickering has started flickering, in the run-up to 2015.  The South-South roars: “Our son, our son”!  The South East gushes: Cousin Ebele!  In Lagos, some voice hollers: “Ndigbo, remember your numbers!”, the same lobby that goads the Igbo to make a dash for the state’s deputy-governorship, riding on Cousin Ebele’s coat tail, to the utter irritation of their Yoruba hosts.  Of course, the good, old South vs. North is alive and well.  And the Middle Belt? Uphold your Christian faith against the core North’s!
It is the demagogue’s paradise out there, this Jonathan presidency!
Yet, you could feel the administration’s clear discomfort at the sight and sound from the Buhari presidential declaration — discomfort at both the quantum and fervour of the crowd, as well as the A-list politicians gathered there.
Still, Buhari is a long way from emerging the APC candidate, given the bid of no less than four other aspirants: former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, sitting Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), and Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Leadership Newspaper Publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
Even if he does emerge, Ripples, with all due respect to the widely acclaimed incorruptibility of the Spartan general, does not think Buhari is an especial visionary or a governmental modernist in the mould of Nasir El-Rufai or even, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Besides, his mindset would appear centralist — just like former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s — and not quite attuned to the imperative for radical federal restructuring, if this democracy must deliver sustainable development and prosperity.  Not unlike Obasanjo too, Buhari would appear susceptible to the illusion of hoping personal daring would solve systemic problems.  Obasanjo flatly failed on that score.  There is no indication that Buhari would succeed.
O yes: there is a raft of zestful media speculations that a Buhari-Babatunde Fashola ticket would create new possibilities and dynamism, never perhaps before dreamed of in a federal democratic Nigeria.  That might well be.
But the dynamics of presidential politics still makes the vice-president a spare tyre!  When presidential cabals invade, the vice-president had better dive for cover!  If in doubt, ask Goodluck Jonathan in his Umaru Yar’Adua years!
Besides, there is the issue of the Christian-Christian/Muslim-Muslim ticket, on which Obasanjo has just made a baleful noise.
Still, what makes a putative Buhari ticket so scary for the Jonathan camp?  Political arithmetic!  Buhari is the scary face of a North that wants power back — and claims it has the number to do just that!  On the cynical plane, that is more than formidable; and Jonathan is especially vulnerable.
Jonathan, after six years, has pretty little to show in concrete achievement.  That is why his camp has embarked on their divisive and emotive strategies.  Even then, they need to painfully cobble together the numbers to make hay.
Buhari?  His immense standing in the Northern “streets” is enough to harvest the vote, for a near-cult figure, despite the long running mutual suspicion between him and the northern elite.  If the Northwest-Southwest political entente works as planned, plus further harvests from a hurting Northeast, which by action and compassion Jonathan abjectly failed to protect from Boko Haram, it could well be vicious payback time!
On a nobler front, the Mr. Clean image of Buhari is a grave rebuke to a Jonathan administration that appears a brazen boast of equal-opportunity sleaze, with the president himself making his infamous distinction between stealing and corruption.
Still, danger may well lurk in a Buhari putative presidency.  Ironically, the booby trap is the Obasanjo-Jonathan collusion that killed the PDP zoning formula, in Obasanjo’s expectation of a presidential puppet in Jonathan.
Though both putative puppet and puppeteer have cancelled themselves out in grief — with Jonathan making a hash of his presidency and Obasanjo closest ever to political irrelevance — that conspiracy may well hand the North the dangerous illusion that it could well hold on to power in perpetuity — with a sense of rogue morality, since Jonathan and co-southerners killed zoning.  That would be Nigeria’s fastest track to perdition.
That is why the APC must come up with a robust power-balancing template, based on the felt-needs of the six geo-political zones, develop concrete programmes to meet these needs and enshrine the federal doctrine in its intra-party conduct.
Otherwise, it would have won the war of presidential election, yet lose the peace of Nigeria’s stability, integrity and progress.

Interesting argument.  Both parties are corrupt but you do not give us the relative amounts available to the Federal Government and the APC states so we can compare those who stole our banana, with those who stole our whole farm.  Secondly, is democracy not about CHANGE?  After 14 years at the centre, should ONLY one party continue to rig itself into power?  It is time for an alternative and a change, lest we make a mockery of our democracy.

Cheers.

We all hate corruption but the problem is that ALL the sad stories of waste and corruption that you highlighted are on both sides of the political divide.
Sanusi also spent N10bn on air charter in one year when he was ‎CBN governor. He wrote off N3.8bn loan for his friend and benefactor, Bukola Saraki and gave N5bn consultancy contract to El-Rufai without competitive bidding or open tender. When FRCN wanted to probe him (with the option of allowing TV cameras), he went to court and got an injunction. Nothing has been heard on it so far and the CBN financials remain unapproved for about two years now.
Do you also remember the TRUE FACE OF LAGOS? These guys brought up weighty allegations of corruption against Babatunde Raji Fashola in the public space just before the last election. The Lagos State Assembly decided to probe the allegations but, instead of defending himself, Fashola went to a court in IKORODU and got an injunction stopping the legislative investigation. No word has been heard on the matter since then. And Fashola is now getting ready to be Buhari’s running mate if popular permutations  are anything to go by.
What I'm showing you is that corruption and waste have no political party. Now you tell us Buhari will help us to flush out corruption, and I presume that would be across all political divides, including his sponsors for the presidency. I believe it's not too much of us to ask HOW. We're tired of hearing WHAT he could do but HOW.

Alagba Buska,
If a man can assist in fighting corruption and indiscipline in a bent and dysfunctional society like Nigeria I think he has scored at least 65 % of the available marks .
What is difficult is spelling out economic policies if the leadership is honest and straightforward ? Can you achieve anything positive on the economic front in an extremely corrupt country which the rest of the world cried out when the government gave out our $1.1 billion ( 172 billion naira) "oil well compensation" to one Ijaw man, chief Dan Etete ? Our present finance minister, Mrs Okonjo Iweala was trained at Harvard and MIT and I can tell you that corruption under this Jonathan regime has impacted negatively on her overall output .
The truth of the matter is that some extremists on the other side don't want Buhari to come to power because of his religion or because he is a northerner or because he is coming to challenge the status quo which benefits them .What I think should interest all trained and free minds is good governance which is possible under and decent and disciplined man like Buhari. As I stated several times,I don't see Buhari as a saint or call him an angel but am sure Nigeria under him would be run far better and more accountable to the masses than what is going on under Goodluck Jonathan where a serving minister spent public money (another whopping sum of 10 billion Naira ) on maintaining 3 private jets and the president encouraged her to challenge the House of Representatives investigation into this fraud through a court injunction. Is that fear to you and I ? Are we all fools ? Do you believe such injustice to the nation is possible elsewhere or under a man like Buhari, who based on allegation of corruption sacked a notable Fulani army generals who played a major role in the coup that brought him to power in December 1983 ? We all want Nigeria to be like the United States,we want our country to look like the UK, Germany, France etc but we are not prepared to free our minds from the clutches of injustice, corruption, indiscipline, tribalism and religious intolerance etc; I think we need to change .
Let all Nigerians irrespective of their religions, regions or tribes join hands together to flush out the fraudulent and divisive leadership out of the Aso Rock come 2015!

He could not and that contributed greatly to spelling doom ‎to his ambition.
What programme of action does Buhari articulate? ‎His main 'product' is anti-corruption yet nobody knows how he intends to do it. We have a right, nay duty, to know!
Are we assuming that those financing him are imbeciles who are just blindly financing him without assurance that they're protected? ‎Is Buhari going to constitute military tribunals like he did in his days as military head of state? Is he going to sit in judgment over the corrupt elements by himself? These and other relevant questions should be answered.

Does Buhari’s reputation as Mr Clean align with hobnobbing with economic looters all in the name of winning an election? ‎Does that reputation tally with defending Abacha (the most corrupt Nigerian leader ON RECORD) as not stealing despite that billions of dollars of our money were recovered from his accounts in several foreign bank accounts all over the world?
Questions, questions, questions.

That is an interesting take about bananas and farms and relativity.
BAT takes 10% of the IGR of Lagos as a first line charge. That is before you add inflated road contracts, oriental hotel, Lekki toll gate, large percentage of govt land in the Lekki corridor etc.

On the other hand lets say the top 100 persons in PDP are stealing 20% of the federal budget.

Of this 101 thieves, who is stealing banana and who is taking the farm?

BTW you dodged Segun Sanni's question:

What programme of action does Buhari articulate? ‎His main 'product' is anti-corruption yet nobody knows how he intends to do it. We have a right, nay duty, to know!
Are we assuming that those financing him are imbeciles who are just blindly financing him without assurance that they're protected? ‎Is Buhari going to constitute military tribunals like he did in his days as military head of state? Is he going to sit in judgment over the corrupt elements by himself? These and other relevant questions should be answered.

Do you want to attempt answering the question ?

Am not being divisive but this question is strictly for Christian members of the forum  :

Who do we think God (or Jesus ) would / should save first ?

1 . A honest moslem .

2. A dishonest christian.

Or some believe that once you are a moslem you cant be honest or a christian can't be dishonest ?

Jesus will save those who have accepted His free gift of salvation. No Christian or Muslim can do enough good deeds to merit salvation. Jesus told us that anyone who is ashamed of Him, He will not acknowledge before His Father and the Angels. There you have it.
