Update on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on 11th January, 2026

Good day, lovers of freedom.

I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto today 11th January, 2026, despite the challenges surrounding his appeal, to check on his well being and to discuss with him the materials to be used in preparing and filing his appeal.

The last judgment of the court is seriously affecting Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal. The judgment barred him from having any electronic device, and this is a major challenge for someone who is preparing his appeal by himself. He needs access to a laptop and a printer, but this has been denied in Sokoto prison, making it very difficult for him to prepare and file a successful appeal on time.

This is unjust and unfair. It is like removing a bird’s wings and asking it to fly.

All consultants and sympathetic legal practitioners have made their various legal contributions to support the appeal process. It is now left for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to go through these contributions, put them together, and file his appeal.

However, he cannot do this effectively because of this challenge.

I gave him the hard copies of these contributions, but he is still constrained by the lack of access to the necessary tools and complaining seriously about that.

This is against the principle of fair hearing, and we are considering challenging this situation again in court.

This is the update I felt I should share with all lovers of freedom all over the world.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Nnamdi Kanu needs lawyers to handle the the appeal process if he expects a result different from Omotosho's verdict. Please folks, don't play around with this, unless he has resigned to spending the rest of his life behind bar from an unjust judgment. I could understand his handling the last portion of his defense during the case in chief, but it is suicidal for him to contemplate handling the appeals, especially with the types of restrictions that the judge and his place of imprisonment imposed on him; more especially by the fact that appeal window would wound down before one could say, IPOB. This case must be appealed asp; president Tinubu has no intention of pardoning Nnamdi Kanu -- a reversal of this judgment at the appellate level is Kanu's only chance of coming out of prison in the Tinubu presidency.

There has to be a reason that he is no longer using lawyers, has the purse dried? If so, his followers should be informed and asked to live up to their bravados, even if it means using GoFundMe, there is nothing wrong with people contributing to a legal defense fund or lawyers offering their services pro bono at this stage. I have always suspected the caliber of counsel that Kanu has been getting since he was extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria, his lawyers have always acted like his followers, whom he always lorded over, instead of defense attorneys who dealt with him professionally. Maxwell Opara's appending of PhD to his name underneath this non-thesis shows the extent of levity and egomania with which he and his colleagues have handled Kanu's matter so far. What is the purpose of that PhD there, is this an academic paper, a researched work, or an expert-level legal opinion? Maxwell should go and put his PhD to good use, if he has acquired one, appending it to little releases of this sort is disrespectful and devaluing of the PhD.

The world is witnessing a predetermined punishment that does not depend on how clever or learned you and your defending lawyers are in stating the facts of the case in a country where there is complete breakdown in law and order, and the predetermined agenda rules no matter what you say or do.
The big question is how long this state of affairs will continue unchallenged by the grassroots of this country?

Eddie,

What exactly are you saying here?

Is it right for an Igbo like you, irrespective of his/er political leaning or outlook, to orchestrate the destruction of your(Igbo) society to the extent that many Igbos (in thousands) are reportedly been killed by his ESN.

Yet, people like you prefer to blame a legal system that Kanu chose to tackle with his eyes wide opened.

What is wrong with you guys?

What political gain would you be able to achieve ceremoniously with your hands bloodied by thousands of your igbo brothers and sisters blood?

Biafra never existed as a nation, the little that existed during Biafra war(1967-70) wasn't much to celeberate, so there is no yardstick to measure the survivability of a Biafran nation with.

Pre & Post colonization, Igbo land wasn't anything to really celebrate about.
Yet, those who weren't even born during the attempted Biafra under Ojukwu are swearing by what they didn't know nor experienced. They just imbibe the herd mentality famously associated with the Igbos.

What is wrong with your lot? They project blatant lies that are so obvious that it emmbarasses non-Igbos on behalf of Igbos.

Listen, the laws and dispensation of the laws is not perfect anywhere in the world. They are all work in progress!

Regards,

Femi Olajide
