In January 2015, while serving as Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated:
“There is definitely an issue of character with Prof. Charles Soludo and his desperate search for power and relevance in Nigeria. Nigerians should therefore beware of so-called intellectuals without character and wisdom, because this combination is fatal.”

In the light of recent developments in Anambra State, that warning now sounds eerily prophetic. What we are witnessing is a pattern of governance driven less by empathy and consultation, and more by desperation for power, relevance, and validation at the national level.
Professor Nsiakwu’s approach - marked by threats, coercion, and hostility toward traders and traditional economic institutions - has raised legitimate fears among Ndi Anambra.
In his bid to impress external power blocs and align himself with forces alien that wants to cripple Igbo economic culture, he is willing to sacrifice the very heart of Igbo commerce.
Whether by design or by recklessness, the consequences remain the same: traders suffer, livelihoods are endangered, and trust in leadership continues to erode.
History has shown us that leaders who abandon their people in pursuit of fleeting relevance often end the same way - isolated, rejected, and forgotten.
This caretakership will expire in three years and a few months, and when it does, political power will move on. What will remain is the verdict of the people.
Those who betray Ndigbo - whether through silence, arrogance, or active harm - are eventually relegated to the footnotes of history, much like Rochas Okorocha and others who chose personal ambition over collective interest.
Power is temporary.
Character is permanent.
And history keeps very accurate records.
