Dear All,
Please note the following and inform all accordingly.
"Syndicates made up of Ghanaians & Nigerians are giving free key-rings at petrol stations. Don't accept them as the key rings have a tracking device which allows them to follow you".

Forward this alert to friends and family.
Folks, a friend alerted me on the above and indicated that these guys just select their seemingly well- to -do potential victims and play the trick. The key holders I am told are too beautiful to resist collecting but remember you may end up paying more  including your life if you can't resist.

THANK YOU.

I've heard this before. Sorry to say this but it's so obviously fake. For example, just think about the resources needed to pull something like this off!

A quick google search for urban myths key rings tracking will reveal the full story but try:
http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/keyring.asp
or
http://www.hoax-slayer.com/key-ring-tracking-hoax.shtml

This myth takes various forms, some more elaborate than the one detailed here. Apparently, it started in aug 2008.

There's been lots of these types of myth going around for years, often to do with viruses or Microsoft and they are fascinating in what they tell us about ourselves and the propagation of these 'memes'.

The most enduring myth is about Hillfigger on the Oprah show saying that if he knew black people would wear his clothes he wouldn't have made them in the first place. A quick check on Oprah's website gets you the real story. A recent urban myth happened in Ghana recently when an international gay rights conference was apparently scheduled at the Accra Conferance Centre! A quick call to the Conference Centre was all that was needed to realise it was a hoax. Unfortunately, only the international media were professional enough to do this simple thing. The Ghanaian press just sold the myth.

It's really worth doing a check online before warning all your friends about these things!

I have also fallen for these hoaxes in the past. What we learn from this is that the most important thing is critical thinking. Until we develop this we will be victim to every fraudster in the world!

Best wishes
Graham
