Hello colleagues, I received this surprise thanksgiving day that the long filled and anticipated patent since 2009 was finally awarded to us on Tuesday 11/26/2013.
I started the project at the Lab with a vision to turn the ubiquitous Pepsi/Coke machines to a community infrastructure for transportation, education even virtual market of air tickets etc Ted one of the most creative profs. at the Lab collaborated with me and the students listed to invent the functions and logic. As it stands, the patent is co-owned by MIT Media Lab/Akinyemi - a first joint ownership of the Lab with any other individual.

Congratulations, Julius! That is ingenious and timely. Do you think we can work with it? Has the patent been filed in the key African markets?

I recall back several years that in Japan they were planning to install 4G mini antennae in street vending machines. This seems like it could be a great add on to the Vanu tower/stations.

Thanks Anthony, sure we can work with it since I co-own, I believe MIT automatically registers all the IPs globally, I will need to check with the IP lawyer that worked on it.
Yes, I already mention this to Vanu for discussion.
Talk on Sunday, enjoy the sunny CT
Cheers

Thanks Michel, the application within our efforts is not known yet I just want to inform in case it develops to something. The potential is quite significant, I presented it in Paris few years back to the EADS Group the parent of Airbus as a kiosk architecture at airports for sensing, monitoring and alerting passengers among others things etc.
We should just keep it at the back of our heads for now, so we don't get sidetracked with the current objectives
Cheers
