Dear Colleagues,

From 16th-18th December 2013, 100 young leaders representing youth organizations in the region gathered in the UN Gigiri for the three days Regional Youth Green Growth Forum.  Hosted by UN-Habitat and organized by the Organization of African Youth in partnership with UNESCO, the forum provided a platform for young people to learn, share, identify and replicate tools to foster inclusive green growth in their communities.

The youth forum focused on key thematic areas necessary for our countries transition to Green economy including green jobs, sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation and innovations & technology. The session were facilitated by organizations such as UNEP, Farm Concern, Save the Children, Farm Concern, Mkulima Young, ACORD Kenya and the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre.

By the end the three 3 days, the delegates drafted the Nairobi Youth Action Plan on initiatives to be implemented after the forum based on four thematic areas which include:  governance, green jobs, agriculture and environment & climate change.

We are calling for input from young people who were not able to attend the youth forum to contribute in developing the final action plan. The initiatives should be for between 1-2 years. We will be implementing the action plan together with other regional, national and local youth organizations. Contribution for proposed  initiatives  on any of the thematic areas are welcome until Friday 27th December. We will release the final action plan in January 2014 and invite those organization interested in working together to implement the plan.

We have proposed our next annual youth conference to take place in July 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya. We are excited UN-Habitat have already committed to again host the youth event in the UN Gigiri. The meeting will focus on Sustainable Development Goals with an aim of pushing for a stand-alone goal on Youth Development. If your organization is interested in partnering with us to organize the 2014 youth conference, kindly get in touch with me and we will discuss more on collaboration.

The Organization of African Youth is a continental umbrella organisation for all African youth, providing a platform for youth-led programmes, a forum for dialogue, and a network of strong future leaders. We are currently have representation and working in more than 30 countries in Africa. We are very keen to collaborate with other regional and national youth-led organizations to unify the youth voices and initiatives in Africa.

Kindly find the attached Nairobi Youth Action Plan for your review and input. You can also download all the presentation done in the forum here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxQTOSWrlNEkUWRGNlRpUW5lR2M&usp=sharing
