Dear colleagues,

Hot or Cool Institute gGmbH and UNEP are happy to invite you to help pilot the Sustainable Lifestyle Action Academy (SLAA) in Africa. The SLAA is a joint project between the two organizations developed in the framework of the Global Opportunities for the Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs) which rolls out existing tools and services to enhance national and regional capacity to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals.

When is the SLAA piloting taking place?

You are invited to join the Africa pilot online from the 1st of November to help refine the SLAA learning modules which will be finalized in 2022, based on the inputs we receive during the pilot. The pilot will be structured as follows:

  • 1 - 15 November. Self-Guided Course: On the 1st of November you will receive access to the SLAA platform, where you will be able to join other participants in testing out the learning modules, experimenting with the exercises and practicing some of the proposed actions. As this phase is a self-guided process, participants will be able to choose when and how much time to spend on the platform (a maximum of 2 to 3 days spread over two weeks). During this phase, we invite technical experts to focus on the modules’ content and accuracy.
  • 16 November. Welcome Event (2.5 hours): During this session, participants will get to know each other and share their experience gained during the Self-Guided Course. You will get the chance to meet youth change makers like you as well as sustainable lifestyles experts.
  • 17 November. Sustainable Lifestyles Experts’ Workshop (3.5 hours): During this session experts will be consulted on the platform’s content, quality and accuracy.
  • 18 November. Change Makers’ Workshop (3.5 hours): During this interactive session youth change-makers will be asked to give feedback on relevance, appropriateness and accessibility of SLAA content and platform.

All sessions on 16th, 17th and 18th November will begin at 10:00AM GMT.

Why join?

By covering joining SLAA, technical experts will have the chance to:

  • Get priority access to the platform and (beta) content of the SLAA, which will inform and inspire you, as well as provide resources for your own initiatives.
  • Share your knowledge and experience of creating change for sustainable living.
  • Learn more about 1.5-degree lifestyles.
  • Experiment with individual and collective actions on critical issues such as sustainable food and transport, tackling consumerism, promoting fair access to resources and - especially important for young people - managing aspirations and anxieties connected to the future.
  • You will have the chance to connect and work with other youth change-makers, researchers, technical experts, and regional organizations as well as staff from UNEP and Hot or Cool Institute - by using the online platform together during the Self-Guided Course and during the online meetings.
  • Join a network of inspiring and motivated change-makers.
  • Contribute to the creation of the SLAA module and to a better learning experience for inspiring people like you. Your unique perspective will maximize SLAA diversity and strength.
  • Be acknowledged for your contribution in the final version of the course and in the project’s webpages and social media.

We kindly ask you to confirm your interest in participating by sending an email to David Rubia david...@un.org and Robert Mburia robert...@un.org by Monday 25th October.

Looking forward to your participation!
