Hi all -

I wanted to get a picture of what everyone is using for SRF (i.e. Norton-Griffiths 1978) calculations. Everywhere I go I discover that there are different systems, some custom-designed, some based on Excel or DBase systems.

At the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute we most commonly use:
  1. SISTA - a locally-developed database system and web-based front end using MySQL and Java. Estimates are available within our office on the web server, and UTM or LatLon density and raw data via an ODBC connection that connects directly to ArcGIS.
  2. Excel 'MultiSpp.xls' - a spreadsheet originally developed in (I think) the early 90s. I'm modifying this with pivottables and lists to calculate survey data directly as it's entered; it gives tables of estimates for multiple species within a given admin zone.
What's used elsewhere?

I use a piece of paper and calculator. It's the most fun.
