Hi all -

We’re trying to test the Zooniverse crowd-sourcing system for counting photographs from aerial survey - if you have a few minutes or more free, please try out the link below and set up an account at Zooniverse to try out the classification system, counting elephants, other wildlife and livestock from images.

Best if you sign in with your own account; also, try out some of the other workflows and projects at the Zooniverse site.

Thanks -

Howard

Howard - just logged on to see how it was.

Problem (1) -- no training or familiarisation photos so you must get many false -ves through inexperience??

Problem (2) -- the photos do not "tile" like we did in Mongolia so it is difficult to be sure you've scanned the entire photo at higher resolution.

OR -- is your objective just to find the +ves, which you then count yourself, and you resample the -ves for falsies??

Hi there - good to see SOMEONE is paying attention! ;)
  • Which workflow were you seeing first - the ‘yes/no’ one? One of the comments on the initial beta was that we do need to give lots of examples of positive photos (or a few key ones) so I’ll work on that; the second workflow (which maybe you haven’t seen yet, you have to have a logged-in account I think instead of being anonymous) has a better tutorial.
  • The images have been chopped up already into 4 tiles - each image you see is already only 1/4 of the full image, so it should be 'zoomed in' to the point where you can see enough detail.
Each image will be reviewed 5 times minimum by different people, and even some of the negatives after that process will be returned for review.
