SUBJECT: MANGO FESTIVAL, 2010

My Dear,
The Horticultural Foundation of Pakistan (HFP) and MassComm Solutions
are organizing Mango Festival, 2010 at Bharia Town, Phase 8, A. Q.
Khan School, Rawalpindi, 31st July to 1st August, 2010. Due to some
unforeseen circumstances and some security issues the member of
Executive Council of HFP decided to hold this event in Bahria Town
instead of Lak Virsa.

The occasion would provide an excellent opportunity to assess the
improvement and progress made in mango production, processing and
marketing within the country and efforts being made to boost exports.
The event would foster close harmony between growers, processors,
consumers, exporters, researchers and extension workers. The show
would also be of immense educational value, besides motivating healthy
sense of competition between growers and manufacturers of mango
products to further improve the quality of their produce and value
added products.

The quality of mango grown in Pakistan is superior. The demand for the
quality produce is on increase within the country and abroad. In
Pakistan room for improvement in packing and streamlining marketing
exists. To compete in the world markets, there is need to present our
produce in accordance with international standards and procedures.
There is also need to produce, keeping in view the demand and
consumers' preferences abroad.

Great geo political changes have taken place across our borders. With
normalcy returning in Afghanistan and Central Asian Republics, new
horizons are opening up. Bright prospects and possibilities do exit to
introduce tropical and sub tropical commodities and their products in
these countries. The government, growers and the processors should
avail these opportunities and plan to derive benefits from these
developments. Many countries are already striving hard to gain foot
hold in these areas. Pakistan due to having varied climate can ship
commodities, which cannot be grown in most countries in apparent
competition. Mango is only one such commodity. Other sub tropical
fruits and vegetables would find ready markets.

Important out lets also exit in Far Fast. Importers in Singapore,
Malaysia and Hong Kong have shown interest in importing "Shindhri"
“Samar Behishet”, “Chonsa” and “Began Pali” Varieties of Mango from
Pakistan. Japan, European countries, USA and China are potential
markets need to be probed.

The Festival would be a center of attraction by policy makers,
expatriate community, exporters, prospective importers, research and
extension workers, fruit growers and representatives of fruit
processing industries.

Growers and different institutes and organizations are invited to
display their varieties, products at the time of the mango festival.
