Here are notes about our Moving Forward & notes from last meeting:
WHAT'S NEXT MOVING FORWARD?: Here is summary of the discussion.
1) People would like to keep gathering.
2) Focus on concrete projects people are doing and the application of NV.
4) Meet monthly - with a potluck, perhaps a bit longer time period.
5) David- would like to continue providing some practices to the group, if desired.
6) Debbie- did not mention this- but she would appreciate some shared leadership in the coordination of the group, etc.
No date was selected- Here is a doodle to try to find a regular monthly time to convene.
Notes from Last meeting:
1) We had a delicious and healthy potluck lunch!
2) Rev. Phil shared a few nuggets of NV wisdom:
- "We are building a justice movement to push legislators to do the right thing. A Mass movement demanding justice that will flow down like a mighty stream. Other people (legislators, etc.) can deal with the plumbing."
- Abraham Heschel's book on prophets: "Few of us are guilty, but all of us are responsible."
- Because we know injustice (and its impact), we are justice workers.
- 1967- King sais that the US is the largest purveyor of violence. Still true today.
- at core of NV - is the principle of love for the opponent- love them back into the whole,
3) Discussion led us to the notion of Tonglen - breathing in understanding for the life of the oppressor. And the story about the nun who was being tortured and yet meditated so much to not let it turn into hate within her. More sharing about the CC Sheriff, and what would it like to give him a way out, speak to him in a way that shows love for him and those he is imprisoning. David led us in Buddhist sing a long: May I (you) be happy, May I (you) be peaceful, May I (you) be filled with love. May you be safe, free from harm. May you be free from anger, anxiety and fear.
Those are things I jotted down....others may remember more. Feel free to add.
