Friends - Please spread the word about this very engaging speaker and expert on Nonviolent strategies in social movements and a discussion about how they  apply to the work of organizing for peace and justice in the East Bay.

It includes reflections on the work of ICWJ and OCO, but think you might be interested in this ongoing dialogue around nonviolent strategies that has been such a persistent theme at the Interfaith Tent at Oakland.

Based on her global data set of armed and unarmed resistance campaigns from 1900 to 2006, Dr. Chenoweth will explore the reasons resistance campaigns succeed and fail.

 
Leaders from Oakland Community Organizing and Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice will also reflect on violence and nonviolence in Oakland and discuss how we can create an Oakland of peace and justice.

 
Opportunities for audience Q&A to discuss tactics, current challenges, and possibilities in our community.

 
Erica Chenoweth, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Government at Wesleyan University. Her most recent book is Why Civil Resistance Works: The Logic of Nonviolent Resistance, with Maria J. Stephan. She is the author of dozens of scholarly and popular articles, and hosts the blog Rational Insurgent.
