Dear Friends--Many of you have been  very supportive, particularly as Cynthia Papermaster approaches her 70th day on a Solidarity Hunger Strike, and Andres Thomas Conteris moves into Day 44. on Water Only.   We have seen significant movement, but need your support to make these vital changes, to get the GITMO closed, and stop human rights abuses at Pelican Bay.  Will you be one of those wearing the ORANGE RIBBONS in solidarity?

Details below.  Please send this to your networks.  Thank you so much.

Close Guantánamo! & Support the Pelican Bay Prisoners'
5 Core Demands!

End U.S.-sponsored Torture at home & abroad

CloseGitmo.net has set the goal for 2.7 million people to wear orange ribbons as a way to tell the world we oppose U.S. government-sponsored torture at all levels and in all cases. Our focus is on closing the U.S. Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay and supporting the prisoners of Pelican Bay with their 5 core demands.  We call for an end to torture in municipal and county jails where suicide is epidemic among inmates who suffer from poor mental health. We condemn all state prisons who perpetrate the torture of long-term solitary confinement. We also oppose all U.S. secret detention centers around the world known as "Black Sites" and military bases where torture is well known, i.e. Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan.

Let's wear 2.7 million orange ribbons in solidarity with all prisoners who suffer torture paid for by U.S. taxpayers and perpetrated by U.S. federal, state, county & municipal governments.

Please take the time to make a small contribution.  It only takes about 3 minutes by going to OrangeRibbons.net . People are welcome to give more, but we are simply asking for folks to give $1.00 and we'll make sure they get an orange ribbon.

Why 2.7 million orange ribbons?
In Senate Judiciary Hearings on July 24, 2013, U.S. Senator Richard Durbin announced that it cost $2.7 million/prisoner/year to keep a prisoner in Guantánamo. This amounts to $7400/inmate/day! Those who wear orange ribbons will help bring awareness to how Gitmo ant Pelican Bay prisoners are being subjected daily to torturous, inhumane conditions.

Funds raised will build strategies to End U.S-sponsored Torture
In addition to distributing ribbons, funds raised from this campaign will go to building solidarity with prisoners on hunger strike in Guantánamo Bay and Pelican Bay.  Your generosity will go to strengthen the CloseGitmo.net initiative through organizing strategies to End U.S.-sponsored torture.  Strategies involve building educational campaigns, supporting direct nonviolent actions, networking with families of prisoners, encourage citizens to contact their members of the U.S. congress, building ties with human rights advocates, working with the coalition in solidarity with the Pelican Bay hunger strike and promoting the Guantánamo: A Comprehensive Exit Strategy.
To see all the non-profit organizations participating in this campaign, please visit CloseGitmo.net.  Nonviolence International has agreed to serve as the Fiscal Sponsor and channel 100% of funds received to support Ending U.S.-sponsored Torture in Guantánamo, Pelican Bay and elsewhere. You will receive an email confirmation that your donation is tax-deductible resulting from your gift to Nonviolence International.

The Close Gitmo Solidarity Coalition thanks you for your support
