So thought I would post a few pics of these monitor gold 12's I've been rebuilding for @naggots , they were dropped off with me , voice coil rubbing and not working , we sourced the last known nos 12 inch monitor gold cones as I found the original voice coils were absolute toast , I've cleaned the VC gaps and hf gap , re aligned and check shims on hf drivers , fitted and aligned new bass cones and yet to do crossovers and plugs , just got them running and ran a few sweeps and they are ballanced nice and even and testing spot on ! Have them running with brand new 50 year old cones and they sound great ! Cant wait to finish the xovers and hear them once they have some cabs proffesional built

Leaning toward a taller narrower style cabinet vs the normal Tannoy style. Ultimately waiting for Aranmar to come up with a design. They used to make all the Tannoy cabinets for Oz amongst others back in the day

So guys it's been months since I've been active on here due to personal situations, recently I have got around to servicing the Edinburgh's, now the Edinburgh's use the tannoy 3149 driver as used in the lrm and dc4000 and others, allot of people think the cloth surround is forever lasting but this is far from the case , the end result is cracking but even long before that point they harden and this dramatically increases driver fs. My two measured up in the 70hz region when in fact 32hz is spec , I can't imagine a single 3149/3169 driver would be in spec now unless it's been reconed or re suspended , this explains the general consensus about lack of bass from these drivers , the high fs causes an upper bass hump with a sharp roll off ,it also effects the mid range of the driver as well due to added mechanical resistance and loss of damping characteristics as the cloth hardened , with new suspensions first thing is the mid bass hump has gone and the extra output in the bottom end but then you realise how much better the bass mid crosses over with the compression horn making the driver much more cohesive, so for anyone who thinks these doped cloth suspensions live forever that's unfortunately not the case and I'm sure the majority are well out of spec by now .....

I hope it eventuates you'll post plenty of pics , I've never heard cornettas probably due to them being Japanese market only , it would be interesting to see how the combination of large bass reflex and front horn loading works with some 315's

Hey @Willmax, yes it made a substantial improvement on the highs in smoothness and detail coming through; this was the main goal. Bass also tightened up a bit with the small by-pass cap on the retained electrolytic. Was definitely worth doing the upgrade on it.

What sort of skills do you need and what is the rough cost of components for this? I have a pair of XT8F's as well and when I put in a lower gain amp on the top posts it did take that bit of an edge off but I still need that amp elsewhere so something like this might work out well.

Hi I recently joined stereonet & am new to all things to do with Foums/Threads etc so please let me know if I am in the wrong forum. After I received the Introductory message, replied to this & then received a welcome message from Alex, I replied to Alex with detail of the Tannoy 15" Gold Series HPD's I had recently came into possession of & a number of photos showing their condition. What I didn't realize was that i was creating another thread & despite searching highs & lows I have not discovered a way of how to re-post that message into this forum which, if appropriate, seems the best place for me to get the assistance I am looking for. If anyone can help me with how to do this or let me know if it would be just simpler to just cut & paste I would appreciate it

thanks for the welcome & tip..............I have tried Cut & Paste & it looks like it worked. The message was addressed to Alex but the information contains the details of the Tannoy's I now own. I have moved ahead with the enclosure repairs but any assistance on surround repairs, reconing & updating the crossovers would get me going in the right direction

Hello Tannoy owners!

Recently picked up some Tannoy Arden Mk1 HPD385s... I love them, magnificent speakers.

Running Technics 1210 mk2 with Nagaoka MP-110 cart or Bluesound Node II sources into vintage Marantz 3300 pre and 250M power combo...

Going to keep these speakers for years so will put them in for refurbishment soon.. looking into the reconing kits (Lockwood etc..) and possible a crossover upgrade but might just recap to keep original spec.

Open to whatever experienced owners recommend?
