The Discovery Channel documentary Mosquito, worldwide premiere scheduled for July 6, 2017, is an excellent film intended to educate those who are unaware of the dangers posed by mosquitoes worldwide. Well, not exactly. Mosquitoes themselves pose no great dangers to humans, livestock, or wildlife. It is the viruses or other potential pathogens that mosquitoes carry and can transmit that are the dangers, and they number in the hundreds, if not thousands. Still, Mosquito is rather thorough for a 1-hour film.
Have you seen that Mermaid documentary.. That & this Megalodon show erk me to no end.. these shows belong on the SyFy Channel not a Factual Channel dedicated to Science & Discovery! Not that I dislike the SyFy channel, but there I would have known what I was in for and had enjoyed it for what it was.
I hate to say this, but most nature documentaries and such have faked (or staged) elements in it to make things more interesting to the viewers. I remember many, many years ago, I saw some documentary somewhere talking about snakes and following a certain snake on the hunt. It came upon a mouse, which never attempted to escape, then killed it in its coils before eating it. I remember thinking that this was very strange because the snake just casually slid up to the mouse and the mouse, despite being rubbed against by the snake, just continued to sit there. Eventually, the snake slowly coiled the mouse. It all seemed so unnatural and years later, I learned that it (and a number of other documentaries) had staged moments to add to the excitement.
This is why there should be a PBS and NPR as they originally existed. No commercials, no ratings chase and no political nor corporate interference; just people interested in educating the populace and putting on good tv with no pressure to kowtow to anyone for any reason. And this is why all such tv cable channels as Discovery are doomed to failure in the long run; they will all end up caving to one of the pressures listed above. If we can get back to the early days of PBS/NPR/CPB, we can have that again on tv and for radio but we must go back to strong funding of them with no commercial involvement at all and no interference from politicians, rich individuals (Koch) and corporations.

On Aug. 10, the Discovery Channel will premiere a three-part documentary series on the NIH Clinical Center Building 10. The program, called "First in Human," highlights the innovation and hard work that takes place in the Clinical Center, depicts how challenging illness are diagnosed and treated, and provides an inside look at the successes and setbacks that are a part of experimental medicine.
The NIH has worked with the Discovery Channel to produce the documentary featuring the amazing research, patient care, spirit and dedication that abounds at the Clinical Center. "First In Human" represents the first time cameras have embedded for over a year in the hospital and followed first in human patients throughout their trial.
The documentary is scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel Aug. 10, 17 and 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The series will be narrated by actor Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory," "Hidden Figures"). Parsons expressed enthusiasm about the work conducted at the Clinical Center.
The concept for the documentary was brought to NIH by John Hoffman, currently the executive vice president of documentaries and specials for Discovery Communications. Part of what gave the Clinical Center confidence to allow the crews access was that Hoffman has a track record of producing quality documentaries with NIH, including "Sleepless in America," "The Weight of the Nation," "The Alzheimer's Project" and "Addictions." Despite the previous working relationship, there was still exhaustive pre-production planning and a Memorandum of Understanding between the NIH, Discovery Communications and the production company, McGee Media.
To celebrate the forthcoming broadcast, all NIH staff are invited to a special one-hour preview of the documentary on Aug. 3, 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Masur Auditorium, followed by a panel discussion. The screening will also be streamed and archived on videocast (NIH Only).
Numerous architects feature in the recent Discovery Channel documentary, which is named The Line: Saudi Arabia's City of the Future in Neom, alongside members of the Neom team and Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The 45-minute-long documentary marks the first time the majority of architects connected to the 170-kilometre-long city, which has largely been developed in secret, have spoken at length about it in public.
In the documentary, Cook Haffner Architecture Platform is described as the project's lead designer. Cook explained how the project builds on his ideas for the Plugin City developed in the 1960s with Archigram.
The documentary was also the first time the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is leading the development of The Line, spoke at length about the project. In the film, he dismissed people's scepticism of the project.
The Line is one of the world's largest and most controversial projects, although this is not mentioned in the documentary. It has been criticised on sustainability and liveability grounds as well as its human rights record.
The documentary will show the team of scientists using remotely operated vehicles and other techniques to investigate seafloor disturbances to determine if and how they played a role in the tsunami. One major underwater landslide they examined probably occurred more than 1,000 years ago, but in an area they called The Ditch they found large vertical displacements of the seafloor that were very fresh and were almost certainly the result of the Dec. 26 earthquake.
Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science and Investigation Discovery, as well as US joint venture networks OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, The Hub and 3net, the first 24-hour 3D network. The show is being produced for the channel by Arcadia Content, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Representatives of the company visited Seattle recently to learn about the construction project. They also rode each vessel during training exercises in Long Beach.
This is an interesting Hapkido Documentary that also features Kyung Mu Kwan Headmaster Kim, Nam Jai at the HQ school in Seoul with members of our extended Hapkido family. It is perhaps to first feature of this beautiful Korean martial art on a major TV company that offers a glimpse into this lesser know Korean Martial Art. The system of Hapkido demonstrated in the documentary is as seen in all Kyung Mu Kwan affiliate schools globally.
