I thought I posted this yesterday, but it didn't show up, for some reason.

I've used Affixa easily with Firefox for a couple of years (running Windows 7.)  Recently something annoying began to happen. When I was in a word file and clicked share-email-send as attachment, Firefox opened and indeed created the draft message. However, when it was done, the gmail window in Firefox closed. I had to reopen it again.

I did a little research and downloaded the firefox plugin from affixa. That fixed it. But only for one interation.  When I did my next email, it closed again.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi David,

Sorry for the delay in your message appearing. We get quite a bit of spam so all the posts are moderated before they appear and I’ve only just reviewed it for the first time in the last few days.

Can you confirm if the problem still happens when the Affixa plugin?

My initial reaction was that it sounds like our Firefox plugin is having a few problems, however you mentioned below that you were having these problems before you installed it.

Would be good to confirm it’s not a factor before looking at other potential causes.

All the best,

Chris

Dear Chris

Thank you for getting back to me.

The situation remains the same. I checked my Firefox plugins and did not see Affixa there, so I downloaded the firefox plugin, restarted Firefox as per instructions, and tried again. Not only did gmail close once again, but the Affixa plug-in is not listed.  I look forward to hearing from you.

At this point I can't understand what is happening--I reposted this problem just a few days ago.  To repeat, the situation has not changed. It seems Firefox won't accept the Affixa plug-in--I have installed it but it isn't there. And whenever I try to use Affixa it creates a message in my gmail drafts folder--and closes the gmail window.  Please address this,

DK

Hi David,

Again, sorry for the delay responding, but as per my previous reply we check all messages before they’re posted because of the amount of spam we receive. Your messages arrived over the weekend (UK time) so this is the first opportunity we’ve had to review them (it’s Monday morning).

If our Firefox plugin installation isn’t installed, there’s no way Affixa can be causing the behaviour you’re seeing. If there’s no plug-in installed, we have literally no means of talking to or interacting with Firefox (other than telling it to load a web address) and something else must be causing the tab closure.

I’ll check again to see if we can identify any incompatibilities with the latest version of Firefox, but there shouldn’t be any.

Amazingly enough, I seem to have solved the problem.  But how is rather interesting.

As you may know, when you download the affixa firefox plug-in, you get a dialogue box stating that it will be installed when you restart firefox, and giving you a button to restart now.  That is what I had used before, but it didn't work.

So I decided to research restarting firefox myself, and discovered that firefox has an add-on of its own that adds a restart option to the file menu. I added that, used it, and now affixa is working without closing my gmail window.

Since the button that does NOT work originates in the add-on you provide, you might want to look into this. Thanks.

p.s. The affixa plug-in still does NOT show in my Firefox plug-in list, but the program works.
