Happy Gilmore 2 arrives with a lot of weight on its shoulders. The original is considered one of Adam Sandler’s most iconic roles, and returning to that after nearly 30 years is a risky move. Fortunately, the sequel delivers in places where it counts—though it’s not without flaws.

Sandler effortlessly steps back into Happy’s unpredictable personality, but this time there’s a twist: he's older, possibly wiser, and more reflective. The film explores themes of legacy and mentorship, which feel surprisingly mature for a comedy best known for golf fights and swearing.

The supporting cast pulls their weight. Julie Bowen is warm and grounded, while Christopher McDonald brings that same cocky charm to Shooter McGavin. But at times, the pacing feels uneven. Some jokes land, while others rely too heavily on recycled material and celebrity cameos.

That said, the film still works as a solid, feel-good comedy. And thanks to Afdah, I was able to watch it smoothly and for free, which made it an easy recommendation. Afdah continues to be a reliable platform for quick access to the newest releases.

Happy Gilmore 2 doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it’s a satisfying throwback that blends old-school laughs with just enough heart.
