ObjectivesThis carbon calculator can help identify your personal carbon emissions from your daily routine. Set your carbon reduction goal according to your needs and move steadily towards low-carbon living.

Scope

This is a personal carbon footprint, which the carbon emissions are calculated from everyday activities including the following:

Home energy usage (e.g. electricity, town gas, LPG) and water consumption Local transportation Air travel for leisure and personal reasons The carbon emissions you indirectly produce due to product or service consumption are excluded in this calculation, such as when you're shopping in an arcade or conducting business in a government office.

Calculation method

This calculation formula was developed by a local university. It covers most carbon emissions figures in Hong Kong including published figures from Towngas and the two power companies.

Our consumption of energy and resources in our daily life, both directly and indirectly, emits greenhouse gases such as CO2 into the environment. Your carbon footprint is the measure of the impact you have on the environment through the greenhouse gases you produce.

Fill in the attached questionnaire detailing your energy consumption and carbon emission-related activities in your daily routine, our calculator will reveal the size of your personal carbon footprint.

This calculator is developed by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in partnership with the CASG which aims to assist corporates to assess or report their Scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on the levels of actual activities.

Please note that this calculator only covers the most common sources of GHG emissions, there may be other sources of GHG emissions based on the operations and activities of a corporation. Please refer to User Guide for details of the methodology, coverage and data used.

HKUST and the CASG aim to provide you with a free GHG emission calculator with clearly disclosed methodology. However, under no circumstances shall HKUST and the CASG be liable for any direct, indirect, special or consequential losses or damages that is claimed to have resulted from the use of this calculator, its data or its methodology, or from the conduct of any user. Please also read the disclaimer of this website.

Please note that the emission factors used in this calculator are sourced from references that may not be applicable to all geographic locations. The user is encouraged to use more suitable emission factors when they are available.

During a power outage, a natural gas generator is your best friend. Without access to electricity from the grid, we have to burn natural gas to generate electricity. We looked into how much does it cost to run a generator on natural gas.

We have designed a Gas Generator Fuel Consumption Calculator that estimates the running costs of any natural gas generator. You just enter the size of the generator, price of natural gas, and average load, and the calculator returns how many US dollars per hour worth of natural gas such a generator is consuming.

First of all, however, we need to look at how to calculate the running costs with a gas generator fuel consumption formula (this derivation is a bit mathematical, you can just skip to the easy-to-use calculator and calculated tables if you wish):

With this formula, we can determine how much natural gas does a generator use per hour. On top of that, if we know the price of natural gas, we can also calculate the dollar amount of natural gas we use to operate our generator per hour.

The Carbon Neutrality Competition is a platform that encourages individuals and organizations to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality. By participating in the competition, we aim to foster a culture of sustainability and inspire collective efforts towards a greener future. The 30 best performing teams will be invited for further assessment, and they will need to share their green living tips on social media. This will help spread awareness about sustainable living practices and inspire others to take action towards a greener future.

To participate in the Carbon Neutrality Competition, participants must calculate their annual carbon emissions using the EPD carbon calculator and report the results on our website at least three times during the competition period (baseline input, mid-term input and final input). Participants are encouraged to input data on a monthly basis.

The top 30 performing teams will be requested to submit their bills for verification purposes at a later stage of the competition. If the shortlisted teams are unable to provide their bills, other forms of supporting evidence may be accepted at the discretion of the judges.

In the "formula" field, enter the formula of the gas. This is necessary to calculate its molar mass (the calculation method is described in detail under the calculator). The default formula is C3H8, which is the formula for propane. Then choose the type of calculation - from kilograms to cubic meters or from cubic meters to kilograms, and enter the known value - kilograms or cubic meters respectively. You can also change the value of the molar volume of gas (which is also involved in the calculation, see details under the calculator), the default value is 24.055 liters - the volume of one mole of gas under normal conditions - 20C, 1 atmosphere. For standard conditions (0C, 1 atmosphere) - the volume of one mole of gas is 22.414. You can use the calculator Molar volume to determine the molar volume of a gas at other values of temperature and pressure.

So, as it was written above, liquefied gas is dispensed in kilograms. Knowing the mass in kilograms you can find out the corresponding amount of substance in moles - for this purpose the mass is divided by the molar mass (molar mass is calculated by the gas formula), as it is done in the calculator Convert grams to moles and moles to grams.

For a given temperature and pressure, the molar volume of all ideal gases will be the same - this follows from the ideal gas equation

Thus, knowing the number of moles of a gas, you can find out its volume by simply multiplying the number of moles by the molar volume of the gas at the corresponding temperature and pressure. Usually, it is either the molar volume at 20C and 1 atmosphere (normal conditions), which equals 24.055 liters, or the molar volume at 0C and 1 atmosphere (standard conditions), which equals 22.414 liters.

Speaking of liquefied gas, we are primarily talking about propane, which, unlike, for example, methane (natural gas), liquefies at room temperature and relatively low pressure, about 12-15 atmospheres. Therefore, propane cylinders are lighter and cheaper than others. A 55-liter household propane cylinder holds about 22 kilograms of gas in liquefied form, which, according to the calculator, at 20C and 1 atmosphere corresponds to about 12 cubic meters of gas.

The protocol was signed by Mr. Yasser Hassan, Managing Director, NBK -Egypt, and Eng. Yasser Bahnas, Chairman and Managing Director, Town Gas, in the presence of Mr. Yasser Al Tayeb, Deputy Managing Director, NBK-Egypt and Mr. Amr Al-Alfy, Head-Corporate & Commercial Banking at National Bank of Kuwait - Egypt, in addition to a number of NBK and Town Gas executives.

Meanwhile, Eng. Yasser Fouad Bahnas, Chairman and Managing Director of Town Gas, said that this initiative is part of the national project framework sponsored by His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Eng.

This initiative will connect over 40,000 residential units in addition to the future expansions in New Cairo district, where natural gas installation has already been completed and is considered outside the boundaries where the financing program applies to monthly natural gas consumption bill of EGP 30 per month over 6 years.

NBK-Egypt (previously known as Al-Watany Bank of Egypt) is a member of NBK Group and was established in 1980. The bank currently has 48 branches across various Egyptian governorates including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Delta, Sinai, the Red Sea, and Upper Egypt, as well as industrial areas like Sixth of October, and Tenth of Ramadan. The bank is also privileged to be among the elite banks within the Egyptian market that hold an Islamic banking license in addition to its conventional licensing. It has two Islamic branches, one in Cairo and the other in Alexandria, thus enabling the bank to offer a comprehensive selection of Sharia compliant products and services in addition to its traditional offerings.

He added that the collaboration aims to encourage customers to use Mastercard payment cards for their financial transactions as an alternative to cash payments. The later supports the country and the Central Bank of Egypt's directions towards a less cash-dependent society and transitioning to a digital economy as one of the goals of the sustainable development strategy under Egypt's Vision 2030.
