Query - Philips-Miller Film audio recording technology

We have have had an inquiry (from Brian Magee through Richard Schurmann) regarding an optical audio-only recording technology used before WW2 (Phillips -Miller), asking whether any members of AES Melbourne remember the technology or know of a recorder that was possibly purchased/used by ABC Melbourne. 

He has heard whispers that ABC Melbourne may still have these, perhaps even in working condition.

Does anyone have any details or ideas?
