As the hands-on Shift Leader reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will act as a working Supervisor running your own machines and supporting the other Machinists on shift with advice, troubleshooting and guidance to ensure full execution of the Production Schedule. Any abilities to troubleshoot CNC programs (Surfcam) on CNC machine centers will be a significant advantage in the hiring competition. Summary Description:

Responsible for precision machining and assembly work on programmable computer numerically controlled machines as well as other manual equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performance of fabrication, modification, repair and assembly of parts and tooling requires:

1.      Interpretation of drawings, sketches, and/or working to set up sheets and verbal instructions.

2.      Adapting shop practice, methods, and techniques to fit each new situation and properly sequencing machining operations.

3.      Performing cutting, turning, drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, shaping, grinding, lapping, and finishing operations where tolerances range from 0.010 to 0.0001 inch. This includes setup of machine and fixtures for any of the various operations while working with such materials as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, magnesium alloys, plastics, and exotic aerospace metals.

4.      Selecting and shaping, cutting, and grinding tools. Setup of machine for operations to be performed. Dress grinding wheels and set feed and speeds according to type of material and tolerance required.

5.      Using mathematics to determine inter-related dimensions, unusual contours and shapes, various angles and different planes, and checking and aligning complex irregular shaped parts.

6.      Use of scales, calipers, internal and external micrometers, vernier height gauges, surface gauge, and dividers to determine that the part is being machined to the proper configuration.

 

Qualifications:

Five years of progressively demanding machining experience. Must have knowledge of metal characteristics with regard to finished product, level of tolerance for finished product, size and type of machines and tools for various cutting and shaping operations. Should be able to initiate independently the processing of parts from beginning to end during the various machining operations having received specific instructions of the outcome to be achieved.

 

Education:

High school or equivalent plus trade school and/or experience equal to five years of progressively demanding machining experience.
