Obituary

[Eric Lis]

This is an unusual message for me to post to the mailing list, but I felt it was an important one. Today I was informed that a long-time citizen of the Empire, Ruthie of the Pasture, has passed away. It's rare that families know or bother to inform me that someone has passed and undoubtedly some of those lost in the annual Cullings are people who died, so I consider it quite meaningful any time a family contacts me about a death. Ruthie, in particular, had been a citizen of the Aerican Empire for over 25 years, and had shared her good humour and intelligent words with many of us. She passed at the age of 67 and, to the best of my knowledge, leaves behind a whole bunch of kids and at least 19 grandchildren.

I often tell people that what I value most about the Empire is the community I have been privileged to help build and the awesome people I've met on the way, and I really feel that at this moment.

Man, it feels like so many people are on their way out lately. My boyfriend had a death in the family last week, two of my own family members are in rocky straits, one of my friend's cousins took her own life the week prior to last. Here's to a long life for everyone, and that all those lost are finding joy in whatever is next. Rest in peace Ruthie.

It’s been almost a year, since Ruthie of the Pasture has left us. 

I never knew what she looked like, but I knew she had a kind heart, and from that I knew she had a warm smile, she’d probably gotten a few wrinkles from worry from where she lived. She probably had silver hair. That’s enough for me to draw the perfect form of Ruthie and imagine her happy and pain free. 

Rest in Peace and Love, Ruthie!

The Empire lost something great, something vital, when our Ruthie departed this life. We must remember her, and keep her light alive and not forget it - this world needs more light in it.
