Granted, I'm an ex-LJer and I'd love to see a 'text-cut' type feature
so that pages are spammed by mile long posts.

Also, I'd greatly greatly appreciate having the ability to import
posts from another journal (LJ in my case) to this one (via RSS? if
this is available already, someone enlighten me please).

The rss feed import is one option we are going to have. We are looking into a few other options of importing old blogs. Please elaborate on this "text-cut" feature.

on LJ, they have this thing where you make a post, but most of it's
hidden so you'd have to go to the post's independent page to see the
rest. It can help cut down clutter and loading time if you have images
or a long, complicated post.
