I was told by the school that the following communication was not forwarded
to respective groups by the concerned reps. If it is so, please do send it to
your respective group parents.
Whether we agree with it or not, there is no reason to hold a
communication.
Dear Parents,
Please forward the below communication to the
parents of your respective groups.
Dear Parents,
Hamara Mela is conceived as an important community
event that includes our children, teachers, parents and a few members of wider
society. It is a day to celebrate creative, spontaneous and cooperative
experiences of the growing up years.
Organising such an event for a large school, as
Shikshantar is now, requires tremendous planning and preparation.
Since the idea is to organise a self-sustaining
event, we have followed the traditional model of engaging the Shikshantar
community, i.e., our children and families. Sale of tickets to friends,
neighbours and families is one necessary part of this contribution. While
we understand the reservations some parents have shared with us, we would like
you to understand that due diligence has been undertaken to calculate all
expected and hidden costs. Sale of tickets contribute to only half the total
cost of the event.
Further, we see the opportunity of sharing by
children about their favourite school event to friends, neighbours and extended
families as a significant way of learning about community exchange.
Sometimes, when money comes into play, it seems that the exchange is un-child
like. However, if we as adults were to limit it to community exchange, we
would be in a position to underplay the role of money. For very young
children, this exchange is facilitated by their parents and for older children,
it is guided but closely watched by parents.
We urge you to partake in Hamara Mela of 2013 with
a spirit of bringing together the Shikshantar community and a special event to
celebrate childhood and our 11th year of being.
We look forward to you and your extended family
being with us on the 28th of September to smile, create, watch, laugh, eat, sing
and smile again.
With warm regards,
