Dear members,

For those of you who did not attend the conference or see this announcement elsewhere, AEES has published an update to the AS1170.4-2007 Commentary - 2nd Edition (2021) which is available as a free download by following that link to our website shop.

In the 5 days since the 2nd Edition was released it has been downloaded 78 times, which compares favourably with the 23 copies of the 1st Edition that have been purchased in the past 2 years, and will hopefully translate into improved knowledge and safer structures for the decades to come. This detailed 100+ page document represents a huge effort from the editors (Scott Menegon, John Wilson, and Nelson Lam) and the technical committee, who we thank for volunteering their time to contribute to its production.

Regards,

Adam Pascale
Treasurer & Webmaster, AEES

Thanks for the link - it's a great document.
Does anyone have a link to the referenced "WHAM" spreadsheet to assess the RC cross sections?

I have noticed some minor typos in the text of the new Commentary. Is it possible to fix them and
possibly add to the text? For example the map of earthquakes includes historical events but it is not the one GA used to do their hazard analysis - it would be instructive to have both.

Congratulation on being elected as AEES rep to IAEE. Charles Bubb ’s advice to me was that at the meeting of delegates: always ask a question - other delegates get to know you and it puts Australia and Australian earthquakes in their mind.
Cheers
Kevin

I was just looking for the link to the updated commentary and discovered that the Downloads link on the AEES web site takes you to the old version, and makes no mention of the updated version being available as a free download!

Adam’s link below still works.

Thanks Doug for pointing this out. It turns out the “shop” tab was updated but we forgot to update the “download” tab on the website. It has just been updated this morning following your note (thanks Adam!), so it should be all correct now.

Kind regards,

Scott
