Hi.  About a week or so ago when I clicked on clippings icon - the page did not come up.  I had to right click  on clippings and remove - and then add the add on again and then reinstall from back up clippings. Every day when I try to open clippings it doesn't work and I have to do the above steps again in order to access clippings.

Firefox version: 78.13.0esr

Thank you

Was Clippings functioning properly before this started happening a week ago?
Was the Firefox profile folder location changed recently? For example, was this moved to a network drive?
How are you adding Clippings to Firefox - are you installing it from the Mozilla Add-ons page?
Are you trying to use Clippings with Firefox in Private Browsing mode? Is the history settings too restrictive - i.e., the option to "Never remember history" is set? This can cause Clippings to stop working.

If all else fails, try running Firefox Refresh. More information: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings

Hi:

Sorry, I didn't see you replied until now - even though I am subscribed to the channel

Yes, clippings has been running fine for 5 plus years.  This just started a few weeks ago and is continuing into this week.
The profile folder was not changed.
I am not using in Private browsing mode - as far as I know.  I searched on private browsing mode on firefox and found these instructions:
  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Preferences. ...
  2. Select the Privacy & Security panel and go to the History section.
  3. Choose Use custom settings for history from the drop-down menu and check the Always use private browsing mode setting.
But I don't see a preferences option so I can't check to see if I am already in privacy mode - but I don't think I am

Every day to reinstall the clippings add on I do the following (since clippings won't open)

1) Right click on Clippings icon - choose remove extension
2) Go to Menu -> Add-Ons
3) Drag file clippings-6.3-fx.xpi to the add on page
4) Click OK On the message.
5) Click on Clippings icon and when the clippings page comes up click on Tools ->Import

I have run the firefox refresh and that didn't do anything.  I just went to the page you listed (in the firefox browser as it states) and I clicked the refresh option again from the below statement from that page:

"Click this Refresh Firefox button directly, if you are viewing this page in Firefox. This won't work if you are using a different browser or a mobile device."

But nothing happens when I click on that.

That page also says, "You can also find a Refresh Firefox button at the top of the Firefox about:support Troubleshooting Information page."

But I can't find about:support.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

To go to the Troubleshooting Information page, type "about:support" in the Firefox address bar. It should bring up that page, with the button to Refresh Firefox on the top-right corner.

Are other add-ons that you may have installed also disappearing whenever Firefox is restarted? Do you have to reinstall them as well?

Next time that you have to reinstall Clippings, can you try downloading and installing it from the Mozilla Add-ons page or from the AE Creations website?  See if that makes any difference (as opposed to reinstalling from the XPI file that is saved to your computer).

Is this happening on your personal computer, or on your work computer? If this is on a work computer, is it managed by your organization? If so, ask your IT administrator if they are managing their Firefox installations using group policies, and if they made any changes to the group policies at around the same time the issues began.

Finally, if all else fails, you may need to start over with a brand new Firefox profile. More information: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

I went to the about page (see print screen) and there is no option to refresh.

I don't have any other add ons installed in firefox.

I have installed from the Mozilla Add Ons page  as well - and it doesn't matter where I do it from - I still have to remove and reinstall the next day.

It is a work PC - and it is managed by work.  I will see about group policies and check into the profile.

Thank you

As mentioned in my previous reply, you need to go to the Troubleshooting Information page to get to the Refresh Firefox button -- not the About Firefox dialog.  To go to the Troubleshooting Information page, type "about:support" in the Firefox address bar. It should bring up that page, with the button to Refresh Firefox on the top-right corner. Or, click the Firefox menu (the last toolbar button with the ≡ icon) and click Help -> More Troubleshooting Info.

I went to about:support and the refresh button is not there - see print screen below.  I also went to   Help -> More Troubleshooting Info and I see it is the same page - but the refresh button isn't on this page either.  I searched the page for 'refresh' and it isn't anywhere on the page.

From looking at your screen shot, it appears that the Refresh Firefox option has been turned off. Here is what the Troubleshooting Information page looks like on my system (Firefox 78.14.0 ESR on Windows 7):

It is likely that group policy settings were applied to Firefox ESR on your work computer. Check with your system administrator to find out if any group policy settings could be interfering with the ability to keep add-ons installed between Firefox sessions.
