Hi,

I have a problem with Clippings 6.1.5 running in FF 68.0.2 (64 bit)

When I reply to threads in answers.microsoft.com and use Clippings, the inserted text did not contain line breaks. When I use other web sites the line breaks are inserted.

Also in here, in this editor, when I right click and insert a text block, it looks like this (I've colored the text background manually in here):

Right-click on the sheet tab Choose "View Code" Within the menu click Insert \ Module Paste in the code below Close the VBA editor Press Alt-F8 Choose the macro Click Run

But it should look like this:

Right-click on the sheet tab
Choose "View Code"
Within the menu click Insert \ Module
Paste in the code below
Close the VBA editor
Press Alt-F8
Choose the macro
Click Run

Is there any way to solve that?

Regards, Andreas.

I suspect that this is an encoding issue. How was the clipping created? Was it created from selected text on a web page, from Clippings Manager, or imported from a file?

Is this issue happening with all your clippings, or only specific ones?

Try editing the affected clipping (in Clippings Manager) by deleting the line breaks, then pressing ENTER to recreate them. Are the line breaks showing up properly when pasting them after making this edit?

Hi Alex,

the issue affects all my clippings. They are created in different ways, mostly I've used Clippings \ New to create them.

I've tried to modify the clipping using the ENTER key as you mentioned, no change in the behavior.
Even if I press ENTER twice to have an empty line in between the text, no change in the behavior.
I've written the text into notepad with line breaks and copied the text back into clipping, no change in the behavior.

I've created a new clipping and added

a
b
c

as text, but when I insert that using clippings here, no line breaks at all:
a b c

Here are all my clippings

Any ideas?

Regards, Andreas.

I have imported your clippings into my installation of Clippings 6.1.5 on Firefox 68 on Windows 10 64-bit.  All the line endings are being pasted properly when I inserted a few of your clippings into a test HTML page with textboxes.

I am now wondering if the problem is with the web page where the clipping is being pasted into.

You can try this for yourself by downloading the test HTML page that I've been using from here: https://github.com/aecreations/clippings/blob/master/test/textfields.html.  Save this as an HTML document on your machine, and try pasting your clippings into the textboxes.  The test HTML page is using HTML 5, and is encoded in UTF-8.

Have you tried pasting your clippings on other websites and noticed any differences?

Hi Alex,

yes, there are some differences, Clippings works on some sites but not on others.

It also works with the downloaded HTML page that used on my PC. But it did not work in this forum groups.google.com and not in answers.microsoft.com (and maybe others).

When I copy a text with line breaks from notepad and paste into this forum (or in microsoft answers), I get the line breaks. So from my view it's not really an issue of the website editor. Just clippings did not work with that website editors...

The technical details are certainly not that easy, so if you have an idea how to fix that I'll be greateful.

Regards, Andreas.

The message editor in Google Groups is an HTML editor, and there is a setting in Clippings preferences that may affect how line breaks are handled in your clippings.

Go to Clippings preferences and check the settings under Paste Options. In particular, ensure that the checkbox setting "Automatically break lines unless <p> or <br> tags exist" is ticked.  Try that and see if it resolves your issue.

Hi Alex,

it works! :-))

Sometimes I'm such a fool, I could have seen that myself.

But who is looking at all the innovations in a new version of a great tool if he has been using it for many years. I obviously do not. :-)

Thank you for your help.

Grateful, Andreas.
