Two questions, one each on Civil Rights for the LGBT Community. [See the hundreds who conducted Civil Disobedience in Grand Central on Friday and demanded "Civil Rights Now" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDxSEpSrz8k].
1. Senator Gillibrand. You told The Hill newspaper in Oct 2009 that you support expanding the 1964 Civil Rights to cover the LGBT community ((http://bit.ly/GillibrandCRAoct09). As you know there is a proposed bill called The American Equality Bill to add “sexual orientation and gender identity” to that law, along side “race, color, sex, national origin and religion,” which are already covered. Can you tell us if you intend to file such a bill, and if so when?”
2. Mr. DioGuardi. Recently Republican Gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino sought to rally the republican base in NY over the acceptance of the LGBT community in society. As you know, the 1964 Civil Rights Act outlaws discrimination against most of society in housing, employment, all public places, all government buildings, and all federally funded programs, thereby making it safe for different people to peacefully co-exist. Do you believe the LGBT community should be protected from discrimination under those laws and would you file a bill to do so?
