Hey folks -

Just to update you, we're talking now with all 3 groups mentioned (the NYCLU is hooking us up with the Nat. ACLU soon, or we'll go direct soon).

Here's the letter to NAACP - which I've also shared with the other groups.

http://www.actonprinciples.org/2010/09/24/letter-to-naacp-seeking-support-for-aeb-equal-lgbt-civil-rights-now/

I'm sensing that most people have just never thought of this, which is nuts, considering these are civil rights professionals.

But we've also been reaching out the NAACP specifically for months now, so there's really no surprise, though it seems the staff there has not briefed the President (when i worked for the Governor - leaving him exposed like this would have gotten you fired).

We definitely do not need long drawn out conversations, though "lets discuss it" will be the mantra, that's not necessary.  These groups KNOW what the CRA is and does, and it's obvious why we should be included.  The only question is a political one -  and societal one.   Do you believe we are equal and deserve equal protection?   Homophobia has been the real answer all along, but I think that has changed, and we just have to call the question.

The most important conversations around this will be INTERNAL ones and those are clearly underway NOW.  :-).

If only gay.inc. doesn't step in and run interference.... which is a real concern.

But ALL of the major LGBTQ organizations  are well aware this is happening because all of this work - all along - has been being shared on a major list serve that everyone is on, including most of Congress.

While not all the steps have been visible - there have been LOTS of steps put in place.  There are NO SURPRISES with this.

If anyone has any questions - or process issues - or anything, please don't hold back - either privately or publicly.  This is an ALL TRANSPARENT operation.

p.s. The vigil starts Monday - and it's supposed to RAIN the whole first part of the week.  Fortunately there is scaffolding up in front of her office (though we planned to be across the street by this old church - we even talked to the priest there etc.).   To follow the SOS - find - queersos on twitter, or www.queersos.com.   Please join AEB page if you're not there.  http://bit.ly/AEBnow - The party has started!
