SOS Senator Schumer: Please File Our Civil Rights Bill NOW!

Dear Senator Schumer,
I'm writing to request that you please help to file a Civil Rights bill called The
American Equality Bill (AEB) which seeks to add SO+GI (sexual orientation and gender
identity) to the 1964 Civil Rights Act (Titles 2, 6, 7, 8) forthwith.
We ask this with love but tremendous impatience because our Government has failed to fulfill its prime duty to protect its citizens from
discrimination and our Congress daily, fails over 30 million LGBTQ people in this
regard.
As you know, the '64 CRA became law 46 years ago and wonderfully, under its ethical guidance, the United States now has a mixed-race President.
Meanwhile, the LGBTQ community can not even get a bill
filed to start the process of
including us in the laws that offer equality and dignity to everyone
else.
We cannot wait any longer for action to redress this.
To press this issue, activists will be launching a daily, friendly vigil centered outside Senator Gillibrand’s campaign offices
starting Sept. 27th until the American
Equality Bill (AEB) is filed. If no bill is filed as of October
11th we plan to go 24/7, and then on Nov. 2nd to begin group fasting.
This is a very serious matter as people will be risking their health standing
outside and fasting for basic human justice. We should not have to take
these steps, but talking about our full equality has failed.
Please know that this is not an opposition action in any way and that we are
very happy to see you relected! But we NEED YOUR HELP
now! We need this bill in order to mobilize our community for their own equality and there is no excuse for not filing it
immediately.
We've had enough promises of justice delayed.
How
many more of us have to die from homophobia before action is taken to end the
complicity of the law in this on-going atrocity? How long must we wait until our children have the chance to
dream of becoming President (or even a Senator)?
This is what the Civil Rights Act offers and it is outrageous that we are not
already included!
To remedy this perverse human rights reality, we feel this urgent action is our
duty and we need you to do yours without further delay.
We look forward to a mutually respectful campaign and a celebratory bill filing
soon!
