Dear art educators,

The Indy Art Center is excited to announce our Call for Presenters for this year’s Teacher Summer Institute- a studio-based professional development experience designed specifically for K–12 art educators.

We are seeking passionate educators, teaching artists, and creative professionals to lead engaging, classroom-ready sessions that support both artistic practice and teaching for artistic thinking.

• Session length: 1 hour
• Stipend: $250 per session
• Location: Indy Art Center, 820 E 67th St, Indianapolis, IN 46220

Session Topics Include:

• The Artist-Teacher Mindset
  • Focus: Creative identity, studio practice
  • Avoiding burnout
  • Building sustainable creative habits

•  Teaching 3D in Limited Spaces
  • Focus: Clay & Sculptural Thinking
  • Kiln access alternatives
  • Air-dry and low-budget options

• Assessment Without Killing Creativity
  • Focus: Taking the focus off of the grade
  • Rubrics that support process

• Digital Art in the K–12 Classroom
  • Focus: Building confidence with digital tools
  • Differentiation across grade levels
  • Managing shared devices and equitable access

• Beyond the Project: Teaching for Artistic Thinking
  • Focus: Learn strategies to encourage inquiry, experimentation, and revision
  • Explore the difference between projects and artistic thinking experiences
  • Identify key habits of mind used by artists and designers 

Sessions should be interactive and provide practical strategies that educators can immediately bring back to their classrooms.
