Dynamic Search ads and/or Adding sitelinks

Very often the main recommendation I get from Adwords Opportunities is adding sitelinks to my ads. I tried this for a particular campaign but I didn't see any significant impact on the campaign barely any clicks but a lot of impressions. Would please comment on this. What is the significance of the sitelinks other than making it easy for users to go to a particular page of relevance on your website.
