Hi,

Is it possible to change the finalUrl of an Ad?

Now i change the finalUrl of every keyword (which should overwrite the Ad finalUrl), but my Ad still gives a 404 because the Ad finalUrl is wrong. I know how to change the finalUrl of a keyword, but i cant find how to change an Ad url.

Thanks in advance!

Rutger

Hi Rutger,

Unfortunately, there is no method to change an ad's final URL. Just like with the AdWords UI, if you want to edit the URL of an ad, you will need to delete the ad and create a new one.

Hi Anthony,

Thank you for you quick response. But is it true, that when i edit the finalURL of the keyword (which is possible by a clearFinalUrl and then a setFinalUrl, right?), that it will overrule the Ad finalURL? Because now the ad has an rejected state (because of 404). And im not sure if this will go away or will work when the keyword url is valid.

Thanks!

Rutger

Hi Rutger,

Yes, that is correct. If you set a keyword's URL, it will use that instead of the ads'. Having said that, I would still recommend creating new ads that do not have any 404 errors.

Hi Rutger

The Keyword url will override the Ad FinalUrl, and the prospective searcher will end up on your site on the page as per the Keyword url - for searches triggered by matching that Keyword.

However, the Ad itself is a separate entity and still needs to be approved with a working FinalUrl.  You will need to create a new Ad if the existing one gives a 404 error and is disapproved.
What happens in the situation someone adds a new Keyword and forgets to assign that new Keyword it's own FinalUrl?
If you plan to overrule the Ad FinalUrl every time, then perhaps simply set the Ad FinalUrl to just the domain ie the home page.  It should never be disapproved (unless the whole site goes down).

Regards
Nigel
