setTrackingTemplate, setCustomParameters functionality for AdsApp.VideoAd?

Hi,

It seems that we can change the Tracking Template and the Custom Parameters for Video Ads in the Google Ads dashboard.

However, "setTrackingTemplate" or "setCustomParameters" type of functionality doesn't seem to be available for the VideoAd class: https://developers.google.com/google-ads/scripts-legacy/docs/reference/adsapp/adsapp_videoad

How can I edit the Tracking Template or the Custom Parameters using Google Ads Scripts?

I’m James from the Google Ads scripts support team. Thank you for raising your concern to us.

I completely understand your concern. However, updating the tracking template and custom parameters for Video Ads is currently not supported via Google Ads scripts. Instead, the video ad selector of Google Ads script only allows you to retrieve those data via getTrackingTemplate and getCustomParameters methods.

However, if you find it useful to have that kind of functionalities within the Google Ads script new experience, then kindly provide us with the sample business use case of the said functionality on your end, and the benefit that this functionality will bring, so that I can raise this as a feature request to our internal team.

Hi James,

I just stumbled over this when trying to update the tracking template.

The business case for this would be to allow using the campaign name for the tracking template in the account.

We are attempting to write the campaign name on an ad group level to a custom variable. For an existing account with lots of ad groups > 200 it would save a lot of manual work.

I already raised this as a feature request to our internal team. However, I can’t guarantee that this will be supported anytime soon because this will undergo reviews and validations. That being said, I would recommend keeping an eye on our Developer Blog for any updates on future releases.
