Hi!

As it has been announced that content API is being sunset in august 2026, I would like to know how this will be reflected in Google Ads scripts.

I have many scripts that rely on the Shopping Content advanced service in Google Ads script to pull data from Merchant Center - will they not function after the sunsetting of Content API? If so, will there be an advanced service i Google Ads scripts for the new Merchant API so that I can migrate my scripts?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Ads Scripts support team.

I would like to inform you that our team will only provide support for issues related to the Google Ads Scripts and sunsetting of Content API is not in our scope. Please be noted that any future updates or deprecations in Google Ads Scripts will be listed in our official Blog Post.

I hope this helps! Feel free to get back to us if you have any concerns related to the Scripts.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply!

This is related to Google Ads Scripts. The Content API integration is a central part of the Google Ads Script product and there are loads of Google Ads Scripts out there that relies on it:

You'll never get any meaningful reply from Google Ads Scripts Team regarding. these sort of issues

Obviously, when the old Content API for Shopping shuts down, it will not work anymore. So you'll need to migrate to the new Merchant API, that replaces it, before it closes down. See https://developers.google.com/merchant/api/guides/compatibility/overview

Based on the experience from when the Universal Analytics API was shut down and replaced by GA4's Data API, I wouldn't count on the new Merchant API being available in Google Ads script any time soon. I'm not even sure they have fixed it yet (?). I switched scripts using Google Analytics away from Google Ads and  to run in Google sheets instead, where the API library is better maintained.
