Hi, i want ot ask you how you're planning to exclude mobile apps in display Adwords campaigns? Is possible to use this script and to set bidding -100%?

Is possible to work this way?

Please share how to exclude mobile app, in order of upcoming closure of adsenseformobileapps.com.

Greetings,

Maya

Hi Maya,

At the moment, there does not appear to be a way to exclude mobile apps in Scripts. If there is an update on this, we will post about it in our blog. The current workaround for adsensformobileapps.com being replaced is through the UI (see step 2 for instructions).

Hi Anthony,

I'm wondering if you know why that is?

I've got a script that looks for certain words in placements and returns their URLs (i.e. mobileapp::2-com.phone.optimizer.super.booster.master but also nytimes.com) - why is it that if I copy these URLs manually into the interface and exclude them they get excluded but if I try

campaign.display().newPlacementBuilder().withUrl(excludeUrl).exclude();

on that URL it previews fine but then gives me an error when I actually run the script? is there any way of excluding URLs such as mobileapp::2-com.phone.optimizer.super.booster.master with a script? Note that I'm not asking to exclude all app URLs automatically, just specific ones.

Thanks,
Julian

Hi Julian,

Can you please specify the error you are receiving? Scripts does not support all the functionality that the UI is capable of, so the error message could provide some insight on this.

If you can privately provide your CID and script name, I can have a closer look as well.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi Alberto,

Are you receiving an error as well while attempting to exclude a URL in Scripts? If so, can you please provide the error message you are receiving, along with the CID and name of your script?

Thanks,

Hi, Alberto. So far I tried two things to exclude mobile app from display campaigns - script and negative placement, set from Editor, which exclude all app catagories. We work mainly in bulgarian market and things came here wiith kind of delay, so I don't know which one will work. So far I think app excludinf form Editor is OK, in other campaigns I'm trying a script, and for now don't see any app placements. If you need any help with Editor, let me know, will help you.

Greetings,
Maya

Hi to everyone, I am getting the same error than Julian or Alberto, I can exclude everything from .gs except mobileapp::XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, when I set this kind of exclusions I am getting the next error everytime: Las URL de emplazamiento deben tener un formato de URL válido

Hi Hector,

Please see this page for instructions on how to format the URL to exclude mobile apps. The subheading ‘Exclude individual apps from Display campaigns’ at the bottom of the page has this information.

If you continue to have issues, please provide your script name and CID.

This works in preview but not when you run the script. Any fix for this?

Hi Robert,

Could you confirm if you are using a Mobile app placement and mobile app category placement? Please confirm so I can further check.

Ejay

I'm calling addExcludedPlacement on a shared excluded placement list with a URL from URL_PERFORMANCE_REPORT or PLACEMENT_PERFORMANCE_REPORT. The URLs are like mobileapp::2-com.ninegag.android.app which seems to match the format on the link above for excluding individual apps.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for providing further details.

Moving forward to your concern, I am afraid that it is currently not possible to add/exclude (this includes adding this type of placement to negative placement list) Mobile app placements and mobile app category placements using Google Ads scripts.

However, our team has already filed a feature request so that adding/excluding Mobile app placements and mobile app category placements will be supported in excluded placement list of Google Ads scripts. Let me send a followup to our team.

Please continue also to follow our blog to receive relevant updates about this type of placement.

As for previewing the script with no error, this should not work as well. With this, could you provide the customer ID and the name of the script so I can discuss with the team?

Thanks, that's what I'd thought but was given false hope by the comment about correctly formatting the URL. I look forward to this being added to scripts...

Hi Rob,

Sorry to hear that. The step provided by my colleague, specifically the formatting of URL for mobile placements, could currently be done on the UI only.

Please continue to follow our blog as we will post there any relevant updates about this type of placement.
