The full error message actually contains more context. The "field_path" which you didn't include in your message mentioned that the field that caused the error is "operations".

In this case, it means that you made a call to the mutate endpoint but didn't actually specify any operations to execute. Try specifying at least one operation and that should resolve this problem.
