Hello,

We are getting different values between the Click type segment in the API vs in the UI.

We are pulling down a PLACEHOLDER_FEED_ITEM_REPORT with Click Type from the API. The customer is comparing this to the campaign view in the UI and then adding the Click Type segment.

Are these two views comparable?

Hi Erik,

So I can better investigate the discrepancy you are encountering, could you provide your clientCustomerId, the complete report definition and the screenshot of the Google Ads UI report you are referring to?

You may send your reply through the Reply privately to author option.

Thanks and regards,
Peter

Hello API team!

I've sent a private reply to Peter above, at least I think. Do you have any updates?

Hi Erik,

Those two views are not exactly comparable. The PLACEHOLDER_FEED_ITEM_REPORT will only return impressions where the particular feed item was displayed as an extension. The CAMPAIGN_PERFORMANCE_REPORT will return all impressions, regardless of whether those impressions displayed particular feed items.

In addition, the ClickType field on both reports shows all click types displayed for each impression. Therefore, if a single impression showed a headline and two sitelinks, you'll see that impression's data in two separate rows: one for "Headline" and another for "Sitelink".

The PLACEHOLDER_FEED_ITEM_REPORT has an additional field called IsSelfAction that will be "true" for the ClickType the user actually clicked, and "false" for the other ClickTypes. This is unique to that report, as it's useful for seeing performance metrics for impressions where a specific feed item was not only displayed but was also clicked by the user.

Cheers,
Josh, Google Ads API Team

Hi Josh!

Thanks for your concrete example. Much appreciated.

If I'm looking to mirror click type from the UI, per my screen shot. What report should I pull?

Hi Erik,

If you use the CAMPAIGN_PERFORMANCE_REPORT and include the ClickType field, you should get results that match the Campaigns view shown in your screenshot.

One tip: if you haven't done so already, I recommend installing our Chrome extension that helps map each UI view to its associated reports and services . It can be a big help with questions related to duplicating UI views using the API.
