Hi all,

We have recently joined the wonderful AdWords to BigQuery datatransfer beta. Please forgive me, if my question is trivial to you. I'm not an experienced data scientist :).

I've used the table: AccountStats to visualise our Cost, Conversion Value and ROI in DataStudio. I am using Date as dimension and offer the possibility to filter on AdNetworkType1. I visualised this in Datastudio and checked the total cost for the 8th of May with the AdWords UI and that matches perfectly. Great!

The next thing that I would like to do: is show the same visualisation but offer the dimension CountryCriteriaId as filter. I've checked the AdWords Transformation reference guide and concluded that Geo Performance Report: GeoStats table would be best suitable. I've duplicated the table in DataStudio and replaced the AccountStats from BQ with GeoStats. Unfortunately the result shows highly inflated values. For example: the 8th of May 2018 shows a cost of almost x5 higher than our actual cost that day. I've checked the raw data in BQ and that shows the same results (although not corrected yet with /1000000).

My question is: how does it come that the summed value based on group by date is over 5x higher in table GeoStats compared to table AccountStats

Any help is highly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Pim Coffeng

Hello Pim,

Welcome to AdWords!!

Unfortunately, we only address concerns specific to AdWords API on this support channel. Since you're comparing results from DataStudio with BigQuery either of the support channels will be able to assist you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Bharani,

Thanks for your reply. The reason I've posted it on this forum is because the data originates from the AdWords API. At least, I suppose that is what the BigQuery data transfer uses to store the AdWords data. If so, my question stands and I think the answers lies in understanding those tables (read: reports) coming from the API. That's why I posted the question here.

Kind regards,
Pim

Hello Pim,

Sure, it looks like you're comparing the results between Account Performance Report and Geo Performance Report. From the AdWords API perspective, the Account Performance Report corresponds to the stats aggregated at the account level with one row per account. On the other hand, Geo Performance Report returns the stats aggregated at the country/territory level, one row per country/territory. Please check this guide on how the API reports map with the UI fields.

Since you're using Big Query data transfer, which pulls the data from AdWords we will not be able to comment on how they're pulling this information. At any given time, the AdWords API results match with the AdWords UI. If that's not the case, please share the complete report definition and client customer Id, so I can take a look. If you believe that the AdWords stats are inflated when using BigQuery, it would be best to reach out to the support channels shared in my previous response.

Thanks,
Bharani, AdWords API Team

Hi Pim,

I don't know if you've managed to ever find the solution to your issue here but I've been trying to understand how to pull cost data by country from the Google Ads DT setup as well. I've got the same numbers as in the Google Ads API (I used the 'Country (User location)' field in there) by adding 'AND LocationType = 'LOCATION_OF_PRESENCE'' in the WHERE clause of my query. See the official doc here: https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports/geo-performance-report#locationtype

Hope that helps you or anyone who's come across the same blocker.

Cheers,
Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for commenting on this post.

Please note the our team can only provide support to the issues and concerns that are directly related to the Google Ads API / AdWords API. With this, could you provide more details to the "Google Ads DT"? I asked this so that I can confirm if this is in our scope and provide support or if you are using different tool so that I can help you find the right support channel to address your question.
