When is MobileAds.initialize() mandatory?

Hi,

I want to under the proper use case of MobileAds.Initialize() and when it is a mandatory requirement. Some of my apps use regular Admob Ads and some use custom events.

The custom adapter doc mentions that the Initialize() is invoked on all adapters and custom event. Does this mean it can cause issues if removed? Is there a way to reliably use custom events without ever using Initialize()?
