In many places in the AdWords documentation, for example in <https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/reference/v201809/TargetingIdeaService.Location> in the blurb about Criterion.Type it says, "Specify xsi:type instead."

What does "Specify xsi:type instead" mean? And where can I see an example of doing so?

Bruce.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for raising this concern to Google Ads API team.

With regard to your concern, I would like to give an idea about XSI. The prefix "xsi" is the namespace prefix used by convention for the XML Schema instance namespace. XML documents can contain elements that have an xsi:type attribute. With this, the Adwords API SOAP client library is using this schema to specify the types of an entity. If you are using one of the supported Adwords API client libraries, this is the one that will construct this schema where you can see the types of entities. However, if you are manually creating SOAP requests then you need to follow this format that you can see on step 3 of this document.

Best regards,
