Hello Team,

I have a few questions regarding YouTube user segments in the Audience Manager:

  1. Does the Google Ads API currently support creating YouTube user segments programmatically, similar to how we can create other audience segments (e.g., website visitors, customer lists)?

  2. Does the API allow retrieving details of existing YouTube user segments (including selected channel/video and actions) created via the UI?

  3. If yes, please share:

    • The documentation link or example request structure for both create and get operations.

    • Any restrictions or prerequisites (e.g., permissions, linked YouTube channels) for using these API calls.

  4. If no, please confirm if there is any planned roadmap or alternative method to achieve this functionality.

Thank you,
Amit Tomar

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Ads API support team.

Please refer to the below response to your queries respectively.

Does the Google Ads API currently support creating YouTube user segments programmatically, similar to how we can create other audience segments (e.g., website visitors, customer lists)?

No, Google Ads API currently does not support creating YouTube user segments programmatically via API.

Does the API allow retrieving details of existing YouTube user segments (including selected channel/video and actions) created via the UI?

Yes, you may retrieve details of existing YouTube user segments via API. You may use user_list resource to build your query and execute the query using SearchStream method via API. For YouTube user segments, you might see a type like REMARKETING.

If no, please confirm if there is any planned roadmap or alternative method to achieve this functionality.

There is no workaround for to create YouTube user segments via API.

Hope this helps. If you have any more queries, please feel free to get back to us.

Thanks,

Hi,

Currently, the Google Ads API does not support the programmatic creation of YouTube user segments. However, you can create other types of user lists/segments via the API as mentioned in the API documentation.

To create YouTube segments, you can use the Google Ads UI. For detailed information on creating a data segment with your YouTube users, please refer to the "Use your data segments to advertise on YouTube" help center article.

Thanks,

I just wanted to confirm — is it still not possible to create YouTube User Segments via an API?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, I confirm that the audience segment of type ‘YouTube User’ is not supported in the API and such features are not usually added in the API either. The UI provides such mapping to help UI users, whereas the expectation from developers is that they build these validations themselves. You have to manually look at the UI to create the mapping between UserListType. You may refer to this Visitors to Your Website guide for more information.

I hope this clarifies your concern. Please feel free to reach out for any further concerns/ queries.

Thanks,
