With the Google Ads API officially released, does Google plan to deprecate the Google AdWords API? If so, is there a deprecation schedule or sunset announced? We, like a lot of other companies, have large code investments that needs to be re-written utilizing the new Google Ads API client libraries (Java in our case) instead of the AdWords API client libraries. Should we accelerate that migration or will there be a generous deprecation schedule? Thanks.

According to this, the AdWords API will sunset a year from yesterday (3/4/2020):

Hi Raffy,

The AdWords API will be deprecated the day Google Ads API v1 comes out (i.e. no bug fixes except critical failures) and will be sunset (i.e. retired, so all API calls will fail permanently) a year later. You can then plan to migrate any of your applications which uses the AdWords API to the new Google Ads API.

Thanks and regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

On a related note, the Google Ads API does still not match the AdWords API in available methods, how should migration for AdWords API requests be made that are not yet supported by the Ads API?

Since Ads API v1 was just released the AdWords API is already now scheduled for sunset per your previous answer. Right now that means a couple of methods will no longer be supported.

The Ads API v1 that was released this week, did that not trigger the complete deprecation of the AdWords API?

Thanks,
Carl
