Could you please provide us with the complete request and response logs with the request-id generated while setting the audience to AdGroupCriterion, so our team can better check?
For the client library, logging can be enabled by navigating to the Client libraries > Your client library (ex Python) > Logging documentation, which you can access from this link. You may then send the requested information via the Reply privately to author option. If this option is not available, you may send the details directly to our googleadsa...@google.com alias instead.

The error you are encountering appears to indicate an issue with the client library you are using rather than an issue specific to the API and its services. That being said, I would recommend that you reach out instead to the client library owners.
You can click on the client library links under the Source column of the table in our client libraries documentation to get in touch with the client library owners through their Github page and Issues tab / tracker.

Thank you for posting your concern.
It appears that the error occurred because there is an issue on how the code is implemented. With this, I would suggest to utilize this sample code as your base code because it illustrate how to add demographic targeting criteria. Yet, audience criteria should have similar implementation with demographic targeting criteria.
However, since your error is more code related, then I would suggest reaching out to the author of the Python client library via this link as they are more equipped to provide support to this issue.
